So, in regards to the SNES classic:
First, I want one. But, that isn't a helpful comment. So, second, I am very confused as to why there isn't a way to connect a third controller for Secret of Mana. Sure, it's being re-made, but what are the odds you have two friends who have Vitas? Third, I can confidently say that a regular Super Nintendo hooked up to an HD TV looks terrible. I tried that when HD TVs first started becoming mainstream, and it was basically just four large pixels.
Ashley is lovely.
I definitely prefer resolution over frame rate. I notice when a game chugs, but as long as it has a steady enough engine, I don't have a problem switching between 30 and 60 fps games. The main reason for that is because the visual fidelity doesn't change when using a different frame rate. However (side note), I do have a preference of 24/30fps for television and movies, as long as they were filmed with it in the first place. The quality of the image changes when you bump up the speed like that so it looks odd. That aside, games generally look the same to me cause 60 still isn't fast enough for me to overlook the choppiness/stutter of the refresh rate. I haven't invested in a 120-144hz monitor yet, but I don't see a need since I won't ever utilize the full potential it has, plus they're kind of expensive and I'd rather have a couple more games than play the 1 of 5 games I own on PC that would push out enough frames to look smooth. To put it into perspective tho, I also grew up with games starting with the NES so with where gaming is at now, I can forgive a lot of the tricks they use to make a stable engine since that's the most important thing to me. I will do 900p30 for a game if it's fun, stable, slightly challenging, but also fairly rewarding. The tech specs for a game can take a backseat if it can hit those notes for me.
I don't get all the hubbub about Cuphead. Why is everyone playing it so much and gushing over it?
Wicked Switch Ashely, looks dope.
Hope they make a retro Gamecube, the original Gamecube discs would look like regular disks next to it, lol. But in all seriousness Nintendo make Super Mario Sunshine 2, Bring back F.L.O.W. and add Luigi with F.L.O.W.'s sister as a two player drop-in idea.
That very last question y'all discussed (720p/60fps vs 1080p/30fps) was pretty interesting in how it revealed how each of you approach gaming. I'd be interested to hear Gus and Adam and anyone else's preference on that. For me it's generally fps over resolution, but I can definitely see Ashly's reasoning for slower games; that was very practical.
All this Cuphead tactical talk reminded me so much of how I (or anyone for that matter) approach Touhou games, haha. Lots of repetition and memorization, each hit taken being a BIG deal, very boss focussed, very challenging, visually spectacular for reasons unrelated to hi-res graphics, great music, etc... I hope y'all manage to beat Cuphead. Few things in gaming top the excitment in the heat of the moment while overcoming legitimately difficult challenges after failing over and over.
We shouldn't have to wait 10 years for the next Elder Scrolls game so they can keep scraping the bottom of the barrel for those few millions of $'s they still haven't made by porting Skyrim to every platform to ever exist, making "special editions", etc.
I'm personally really interested to see what the IP they're working on is going to be. If ES6 is being delayed due to them working on something else really cool I can live with it. If we get skyrim but in space, less excited. Paid mods and re-releases annoy me, that being said I'm still buying the hell out of Skyrim on the Switch, so maybe I'm not actually annoyed by it as I think I am.
Ooo nice, Alfredo's a good addition to Glitch Please!
EDIT: What Ashley was saying at about 19 minutes in about knowing exactly what you need to do but not being able to do it and hating yourself rathe than the game reminds me of 90s platformers like Crash Bandicoot. Of course, that's probably just because I was watching Jeremy play it yesterday....
The tracking gun they showed reminds me of Gunstar Heroes
Sure the SNES Classic is cool, but I remember a really cool Atari emulator I got as a stocking stuffer and it cost about 15. It was an actual joystick and plugged right in via A/V cables, and had about 20 games on it. That being said, this is a terrible 1st party option for those only interested in 3 or 4 games from the SNES, given it's $80 pricetag. This is DECADES-old tech, and I don't feel they can justify that price. I think it should have been cheaper and allow you to buy additional games to your liking. If you decide to emulate these titles, I wouldn't feel too bad, as Nintendo has officially made it's money from these games. Just IMO.
