My issue with the Campo Santo-PewDiePie thing is that Campo Santo is weaponizing DMCA for actions not committed in their game and that is not acceptable, regardless of how despicable someone is. That is a direct threat to all videogame lets plays, and all an abuse of DMCA. I will never buy a Campo Santo game again due to this abuse.
How is it abuse? From their POV they do not want to be associated with someone who uses that sort of language. It is their game and their IP.
D.M.C.A.- Digital. Millenium. Copyright. Act.
Look it up on Wikipedia. The paragraph sentence includes:
"It criminalizes production and dissemination of technology, devices, or services intended to circumvent measures (DRM) that control access to copyrighted works."
A let's play video on Youtube does not do this.
"It also criminalizes the act of circumventing an access control, whether or not there is actual infringement of copyright itself."
Again, it does not do this.
"In addition, the DMCA heightens the penalties for copyright infringement on the Internet."
The only relevance this has is if infringement is shown...
TLDR; Campo Santo is ABUSING the DMCA. End. Of. Story.
P.S. The biggest issue here is really that a millionaire is so selfish as to have this huge impact on the entire let's play industry and can't be bothered hiring a lawyer to fight the DMCA strike... if PewDiePie can't be bothered why should anyone?!? Oh, wait, because they're not selfish fucks (offense entirely meant).
One piece of criticism I have with the production of this particular show is that the intro destroys the image quality for a few seconds. I have a couple ideas that might help, but for the most part I would simply suggest not flashing through so many images with fine details so quickly. Less movement/fewer changes helps preserve details for subsequent frames. There are other things you can do, but that's the easiest solution.
A game genre I would like to return, though I don't think it was ever a really big one, is the co-op drop in/out RPG, ala Secret of Mana. Now, I believe Secret of Mana is getting a remake for the Vita (though, I would love it on the Switch), but if there was a way to play either couch co-op or online, that would be awesome.
The FMV games I loved back in the day were point and click adventures, usually mysteries. Phantasmagoria, Ripper, Black Dahlia, the Tex Murphy Games. They actually did a new Tex Murphy game 3-4 years ago, and it was a lot of fun.
When the 11 Little Roosters Trailer came out in 2015, I actually wondered if it was going to be modeled off one of those old games, since Ryan was only a voice over. So the audience would have to figure out the mystery with him as the 'player character'.
And there's your RT FMV game answer. Make 12 Little Roosters, and make it an FMV game, VR or not. : D
The "cultural differences" defense is complete horseshit, racism wasn't developed by americans, europe is just as racist as we are and that word is just as well known. Maybe completely unused in small town sweden where felix was raised but he's been making millions, traveling the world and has lived in the UK for a while now. He's 9 years older than me. There is no excuse.
Exactly! the N-word is universally a racist term throughout the world
Agreed. I'm from the UK, and everyone knows that's a word you don't say. If he's hanging out in a community that doesn't find that word that charged or significant, it's because it's a community that doesn't find racism/black people that significant.
@Sharkwaiter that's my exact thinking considering he's only recently been in the spotlight for this shit. I suggested he's been in alt right discords or something in the dudesoup podcast comments and got down voted to hell lmao
There was a Bunker FMV that came out a couple months ago, saw it on the PSN store.
I am still waiting for a console release of Valkyria Chronicles 2&3. For people who do not know, Valkyria Chronicles is basically, XCOM battle gameplay, set in a pseudo-WW2. It is way more character focused than XCOM (each squadmate has their own personality), and has an anime art style. If you have a PS3/4, or PC that would be a far easier introduction to that style of game than XCOM.
Oh god this! Valkyria Chronicles 2 on psp is such a secret gem of that device. I love the characters so much, especially Avan and Cosette.
ive played alot of xcom, theres some things i didnt even notice playing through war of the chosen, like i dont think any of the chosen had more than 1 turn alive against me apart from in their base and having tired characters get traits. also rangers ability to knife anything that moves next to them is OP as hell
If you think about it, point and click games have sort of been reborn in the Telltale style games cause they're really simple and you just wander around finding things to click on. It's obviously a bit more advanced, but it's still the main spirit of those style of games.
This DMCA issue with Campo Santo and Pewdiepie is a non-issue. NerdCubed had a whole thing that was similar to this, where he made a video, the devs fixed the problems he talked about, and threatened to DMCA his video. You cannot DMCA retroactively. Watch his video on it:
