SOMA is the kind of horror game that makes you not just physically scared, but existentially terrified. The kind that will shove a needle directly into the parts of your psyche that wonder if life has purpose, or if we are just motes of dust falling into a yawning maw that will not care a whit that we were there or that we are gone.
Once again,.. another screamin kudos to the editor who spiced and spliced this report up. (I may not know WHY I laugh so hard with these edits,.. but I do,.. and I LOVE it!) To be clear,.. I still want the news,.. but DAMN,.. this shit is funny!
I'm in the minority here, but while I thoroughly enjoyed The Dark Descent, it didn't get deep under my skin the way A Machine For Pigs did. Dark Descent was spooky af and probably the stronger of the two from a gameplay perspective, but Machine For Pigs had such a bizarre mindfuck of a story that hit me in a very weird place and messed me up for days afterward. It was so well written, I still think about certain lines from the narration.
I remember being away for a summer program when this came out. One dude had the game and we all wanted to see the monsters so 11 of us crowded around their laptop to check it out. After an hour plus we hadn't seen the monster, queue a bunch of 16y/olds goofing as the dude playing just ran around. Got distracted making jokes when we rounded a corner to come face to face with 2 of the baddies which had us all yell in unison like a bad horror movie. So fond of the memory of that dumb night.
