Star Citizen Fans Have Finally Had Enough

@PromNightFetus To be fair, Star Citizen has made itself an easy target for criticism. The sheer magnitude of funds that Cloud Imperium has raised through crowdsourcing and the nearly decade-long development have established the whole project as kind of a running gag for a significant portion of the people who follow the games industry as a whole. I'm sure that a majority of the SC community is willing to accommodate the extended development cycle and are content to play in the space that exists at this time. Hell, I have several friends who have been backers since the initial Kickstarter, and their support seems unshakable. A handful of supporters showing signs of wavering faith may not seem like much, but to the rest of the public who are watching the whole thing with wonder, it looks like an indication that cracks are starting to appear in what has historically been a foundation of stalwart defenders.

@Retep434 they literally just have to go to the website (robertsspaceindustries.com) and buy in. its $45 for an entry level ship and game package combo, and you can pretty much get any ship you want in game now if you put the work in. I've complained at them in the past for being so critical of a game they clearly haven't even sat down to play for as little as an hour or 2... hell they do free fly events all the time so you can join and play for free a week or two at a time. they've had 3 or 4 since i signed up in November.

@Larvitar2000 Except at least in Star Citizen they've got the drink/food bars and at least one building to accommodate guests. The elevators never work though.

@Neiland Because honestly the game they're trying to make requires so much tech that doesn't exist currently that no sane company out there would take the time and effort to try and make a "dream game" like Star Citizen is making itself out to be. Most companies are there to make the money they invested back as quickly as possible with profit. Not many out there are willing to take the time (years) to make a game like this. That's why games like Minecraft or what Hello Games did to bring NMS to the standards people expected stand out in the gaming community. Not to mention since no one's done it, so there's some unexplored territory that they'd would tread. It's just too risky really.

@PromNightFetus But its not really a risk, Star Citizen proved that there is a massive market for the potential of a game like this. Also, there is definitely tech for games like star citizen, elite dangerous and eve both exist, they just dont also have the on foot portion, and that doesnt seem too difficult to add. I get what you are saying, but if the game never is released, or is just mediocre of a game when it does, IDK how much ambition matters

@Neiland It is in the eyes of devs and publishers who revolve around investing money and trying to make a return on that investment as quick as possible. Theres a reason why we still have Call of Duty games. What I mean is that the actual technology required for the game (icache, server meshing, etc) are things that most games don't have (I think Microsoft Flightsim is using server meshing). Most developers aren't looking to make the next big dream game. They're making money. It's a business. And it's very risky for them as a business to throw funds and resources towards creating technology (that may take several years) for a game that people may not even be excited for down the line. CIG (and those who fund the project) are essentially taking risks at the opportunity for that "dream game". It's really not that simple. Remember with Star Citizen you're not loading in and out of your ship like NMS or ED. It's closer to GTA. You're a person. That's who you control. You walk into ships or vehicles to go in them not simply load a character in and out. ED is adding legs but to what extent who knows. AFAIK ED planets and moons don't have atmosphere. A lot of the physics that work in SC revolve around atmo and planet/moon gravity. SC is still just a collection of tech that's cool to play with but still isn't really a "game". There's some gameplay loops but there's no substance to it currently. But the technical feats they currently have is pretty astounding. Whether or not this will all properly flesh out into a game, only time can tell.

@PromNightFetus you are right, alot of it is cool tech. but 300mil is alot of money, and thats before wide release. I think you have alot of good points, definitely some I didn't think if, but I'm just surprised no one has tried to push their way in
