@RiverRunning I never played live back in the day since didn't have a console to go online with unless you could the ps2 witch to this day don't know how you can play with people over the web with it learning from reading the back of a game holder, but from watching youtube video's i have seen and heard the hate. Finally getting my hand's at some online cod and never came across as bad as it got, someone's discord i was in posted a clip and said " the old day's " but still think people are like that just don't use mic's as much as they once.

@Official-cat-gaming Yeah, they are starting to realise, slowly, that it don't fly well and getting banned is really a thing for the younger ones who don't have so many games to turn to if they get banned from one - I think it is part of the reason that free games can turn into utter cesspools, you don't risk anything and there are plenty of others to go to... especially after they die due to the toxicity... havni said that they can also be some of the best communities - it depends on the devs, as ever.

@Official-cat-gaming but that's the point. you have to actively hunt and look for positive representation of POC or woman in videogames. The absolute majority of characters (especially player characters) are still just 30-somenthing white dudes

@Hammlet It really depends on what type of game you play; I prefer sci-fi strategy, turn-based and RPG games and there is and has been for a long time plenty of representation in that type of game; the Final Fantasy series has had very good representation generally in terms of race, likewise most MMORPGs (e.g. WoW, Guildwars) and many other strategy games since they tend to allow you to customise your character with a large range of charateristics (e.g. Transport Tycoon). I'll grant that those games tend to favour more mature and less outspoken people who prefer slower or longer gameplay but the market is big - just look at the more mainstream success of the Sims franchise... talking of which they have pretty good representation... to the point that in Sims 4 male partners in a marriage (same-ex or otherwise) can be pregnant and female partners can cause males to become pregnant (which would only be possible in the real world at the moment via transmen and transwomen) - the workings of relationships has also always been rather more on the pansexual side rather than binary (an earlier incarnation even had a quest where the player was to romance both members of a male-female couple and it was only optional to prefer one over the other meaning a three-way relationship was the default...) Sorry, got a bit off topic, anyway... I think the thing is that less mature people tend to prefer different types of games and more mature people different games but those more mature people also tend to be more dedicated to fewer games and less blantantly vocal than less mature gamers... though I think that might be changing to a degree with more and more people coming to gaming... but this difference naturally means that problems in games like CoD are much more likely to be "news" than the quieter types of game that also have fewer of these problems... but that is just my limited experience speaking - maybe I just haven't hit the games where this _is_ a problem, as you say... P.S. Interesting to note the difference between Starcraft and Starcraft II characters; definitely a reduction in representation once you take into account the growth in number generally... kinda tracks with the deterioration of their player base in that regard too I guess...

@Hammlet D’arci Stern, the first Black female playable character, comes from the fairly obscure PC and PlayStation One title Urban Chaos. Beyond Good and Evil , Resident Evil 5, Dead Island, Left 4 Dead, Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, Remember Me, Broken Age, Dragon Age: Inquisition has one of the few LGBQT characters in video game's witch was said 2015 now there have been more. There are other game's but don't think they would meet what people call " Good characters " like a fighting game clothing and such, one may call it just eye candy and nothing more but they do have story to them.

@Official-cat-gaming I don't know if you're agreeing or disagreeing with your comment. Like you said yourself, there are only a few, and many of them are just skins, not actual characters. Your first example is obscure, like you said yourself, RE5's Sheva has not a good character IMO, L4D's Coach isn't even a character in a literary sense (as all of the L4D PCs are), same goes for Dead Island, AC:Liberation is just a glorified DLC, Beyond Good and Evil is critically acclaimed but flopped commercially, so not a lot of gamers experienced it, Remember Me is both obscure and (IMO) not good, and I can't judge DA:I or Broken Age as I played neither

@LittleSkraps All the same if you just ban the word you eliminate cut down on the problem. I'm black and via association a lot of my online friends are black and minorities and seldom do we see the N-word in gamer tags. If cod said they would implement emblem review system and started placing bans on accounts using Nazi or KKK related imagery that would start to clean up the community.

@LittleSkraps sorry to burst your bubble, but most Black people don't use a gamertag with the N-word in it. That's almost exclusive to "edgy" kids and actual racists

@Hammlet You know by saying "most" you are arguing against your own point? You're agreeing there are black people who do have it in their usernames

@LittleSkraps I'm saying "most" because I don't wanna speak on behalf of millions of people (and that pure statistics says there's at least one out there). If a dude is called "N***akilla420", you can bet your fucking ass he's not black though. And names like that are the huuuuge majority (again, statistics alone says it won't be all of them) of GTs with the N-word in them. And even then, I'd doubt the few actual black people with such a GT would mind switching to a different one if Activision would enforce a ban on that
