As a Gamestop Employee, All of this is true at my store. Told that we were going to operate as normal and that if we got sick there was a low chance of us dying anyway from our dm.
funny enough, the only mom and pop I still buy games from closed up show a while ago due to this. the sign says they hope to reopen when things are better, so here's hoping... but I'll for sure DRM in lieu of gamestop every day of the week, I hate them that much.
Walmart is about the same, I know Walmart could be considered needed, but honestly im really wishing we would close. we can't keep stuff I'm our stores anyway. we get yelled at by our customers, and people won't keep their distance. I try and keep my distance, but when I move away they just keep getting closer.
@WeirdFrank I wish I could mask up, but I never get the chance to get any. they sell out before I can get to them. same with food, and other needed items. we stock so fast, and we can't even get prepared for if we get locked down.
Isn't retail great? I work at a 'Major Retailer'. We stock all of the tp that comes in that day starting at 1pm and it's almost all gone by 5pm. And in this time of self-isolation and social distancing, they ask if we want to work more hours to help stock everything. I don't want to work at all but I have to. I see whole families come in and wonder how they don't understand the danger they're putting their family in. MAYBE when we hit Italy levels of death, people will get it. Italy may surpass China in number of deaths. Sorry, just got home from work.
As a Gamestop employee myself, It's ridiculous the boilerplate emails we keep getting from the higher ups telling us how "On top of it all" they are. Every store in my district is running low on cleaning supplies to the point where they actually had us all send a report up of how much we had left. The main reason they refuse to close is because sales are actually up because of everyone running in to get games/consoles to distract their kids that are home from school and not to mention the release windows of big games coming in.
bookstores are the same, like exactly the same as GameStop. if they're in a mall corporate will not close it unless the mall closes, and standalone stores aren't closing...
my one question is of gamestops do close how will we get out preorders. ive put 80 on ff7 and I would really like to not have to buy it digitally too on the 11 cuz we cant get our copies for who knows how long
@jordanh09 It would depend on where you're at. The EBgames in my province aren't closing, i asked my buddy who is a manager at one of them. You should just ask somebody who might know, since they definitely already had a meeting about it.
