Devs Fight Against Steam’s Politics

@Gobbles24 did you happen watch the entire video before writing this comment? because it seems like you missed the point of steam refusing to pull hate speech + hate groups from its platform, which is a lot more than being a victimless bystander as you are insinuating.

@eastmanofeden Yeah but who decides what "hate speech" is? A super liberal could decide anything remotely offensive is hate speech and could stifle their users. Steam went "We'll provide a platform do with it as you please". Not nearlly on the same level but like God giving free will

@Gobbles24 That's the world we have always lived in. Since before civilization began, people have taken sides, and they faced consequences for that, for good or for ill. This isn't a new thing. You need to learn that this is a simple fact of life. There are ALWAYS consequences for action and inaction. Even your speech, as free as it is, is not immune to consequence. Steam didn't get rear-ended. They're sitting at a traffic light, it turns green and they've yet to put their foot on the gas pedal, so now everybody has to drive around them. All they have to do is condemn racism. It's extremely easy, and it doesn't take longer than a minute. A Twitter post or two will do the trick. And yet, after having plenty of time, they just sit there doing nothing. Not so much as a single sentence. They haven't even done anything about the hate groups that are present on their platform. They don't care. I'm sure some who are working at Valve do actually care, but the company overall, doesn't. They're not even pretending to care and that's just sad. "Silence is Compliance" is the truest statement that has been chanted at protests lately. Hopefully they'll actually step up and do SOMETHING, ANYTHING. Better late than never, but Steam's users, and the Devs that relied on them, won't forget Valve's long, inexcusable radio silence anytime soon.

@BroanBeast This is an internet show made in America and targeted to a western audience. White people make up 76% of the US population. I don't know how you can say that, in the context of this American gaming news show, that White people are a minority. Literally just look at the 4 people on the screen and TELL me that White people are not overly represented here. I'm not bashing the lovely folks at IG. They're trying to be part of the solution. I'm just questioning how you can look at media like this and say that White people are a minority in this kind of media.

@Rolepgeek Thank you. It's literally the law, as is. You watch/know that someone is being murdered and don't report it, you are an accessory to murder. Agreed upon logic of the masses So you know that this behaviour is unprofessional and not to mention literally murder but you say nothing...... and "understand" that people and corporations who can push for change in that behaviour are also saying nothing. Damn. Guess not all lives matter, in the end.

@yuedarkangel Corporations weighing in on current events does sometimes ring hollow. Black Lives Matters is about police brutality and racism, most often displayed in its use of force. This is america and everyone is innocent until proven guilty, every death at the hands of police should have the scrutiny of a trail by their piers (not the blue boys, the citizens), but right now that is very FAR from the case. @yuedarkangel I see where you’re coming from but I gotta give you one particular critique, majority of these protests are peaceful it’s just that the non peaceful ones are the ones reported. Another thing in the non peaceful protests most of those actually start from police instigation for example the Minneapolis one was started when a cop set fire to a target, many have been reported to start when cops go violent on peaceful protestors or when like the Minneapolis case cops secretly start it in order to downplay the significance of the protest. But in the defense of the rioters, the blm did try to protest peacefully for years. The capernick protest was called disrespecting the flag though it had nothing to do with the flag, on top of that kneeling has been seen as the highest form of respect for a superior for centuries, we kneel to kings we kneel to god, why is it all of a sudden we kneel to the flag that it’s rude. I don’t condone the riots, but I understand where they come from, when started from both sides. MLK once said a riot is the voice of the unheard. These protestors have been ignored for decades a riot was only inevitable, and as I said the riots actually started by true protestors are extremely rare. Besides when has any oppressed group earned rights through peaceful protest. America freed itself from Britain through revolution, slaves were freed through civil war, Irish were freed through uprising. Peaceful protest doesn’t exactly have a good track record, but anyway that’s my 2 cents. I’d love to hear more from you if you want. Stay safe in rona times
