Twitch has recently updated its terms of service and one change people seemed to have noticed right away is that the contextual use of the words ‘simp,’ ‘incel,’ and ‘virgin’ will not be permitted on the platform.
There’s been a long history of Twitch and it’s off & on approach to their terms of service as well as the enforcement of it so people haven’t missed the opportunity to take the company over its selection of these words specifically.
To make matters worse people are still upset about the massive removal of Twitch vods due to a sudden update in regards to Twitch’s approach to licensed music. Thousands of videos were issued DMCA claims and promptly removed. This might have been a good opportunity to address those issues as well.
In the past Twitch hasn’t been the best about responding to claims of sexual harassment within its community so its nice to see them finally trying to tackle the issue but it’s probably going to take a lot more than a few banned words.
We’re hoping for the best on today’s edition of Inside Gaming but between the DMCA issues, the nature of harassment on the internet, and Twitch’s relationship with the military this past year we aren’t holding our breath for any immediate changes.

You can still say "Douche nozzle" or "Fuck face" "Dumb Ass" or "Idiota Gigante" or "Fucktard" or 'Shitfuck" or... there's a million insults much harsher than those, why get butt hurt about 3 soft ones?
@Lizardguy64 None of your examples are really all that insulting. If a person trying to get a career off the ground in media has you repeatedly calling them an incel it can kill their career before it starts. I've never seen Douche Nozzle defined as "A White male so single mindedly obsessed with the rape, violation, and destruction of women that no other thought can exists inside his head" However I have seen that definition frequently on social media for incel.
Which is kinda the whole problem. As much as you may say it's tame Incel has much, much stronger political and social implications than Shitfuck. There is no wrong person to hear you get called a Idiota Gigante, but the wrong person sees you get called an incel and suddenly any reference to your name is met with "Oh yeah I heard he was an incel so I avoid him."
I mean, are you seriously telling me you would be less offended by people implying you think it's high times to rape little girls versus someone calling you a Dumbass?
Really?
@Blake_jewellio It's original meaning was supposed to be a man who blamed women exclusively for being a virgin. Now a days it is really just a generic insult to toss whenever someone you think is a white male does or says anything that in anyway negatively effects ones ego.
For example, I'm an incel for not watching a movie I wouldn't have cared about regardless of who starred in it especially after my wife said it was shit. I'm constantly an incel for telling "look at me I'm a feminist" types to knock it the fuck off when they compare rape to arbitrary horse shit like cheating in a video game. I'm an incel for not giving a women whos car alone is worth more than half my house five bucks worth of shit for free because I can, and people have, been fired where I work for giving away less for free.
Keep in mind I'm also an incel for not ignoring the fact the word has no real meaning anymore. It's just a slur, and recognizing that means I hate women more than anyone. It also means I am fat and ugly and should commit suicide.
Yeah.
I can kinda understand "simp" and "incel", those are clearly ripe for abuse, and ARE abused, but "virgin?" Nobody uses "virgin" as an insult, this isn't American Pie. "hurr durr you're a virgin" see? it's lame. xD
@geekypeaky they do though and while it may be funny to some it isnt to others that actually are virgins and take it that way. though wouldnt know, as im a 33 year old who lost my virginity at 18.
@TwistedIrish No shit? that’s cool thanks for the service and while there might not of been lava monsters there’s always the possibility of space aliens when the covenant comes the glass the planet
are the terms "incel", "simp", and "virgin" really the issue here when you have scores of perverts harassing women on twitch? seems like a really weird direction to take and just serves to show the twitch community how out of touch the platform's leaders are with the issues at hand. It's like a fire is breaking out in a house and meanwhile Twitch is fixing a leak in the kitchen sink
