PS5 preorders have been a a bit of a frantic mess as game enthusiasts everywhere rush to digital storefronts or even their local GameStops to try and snag the newest Playstation. There was even some confusion from Sony as they claimed there would be ample warning and messaging around when the PS5 would be available to purchase. However, that didn’t stop Walmart from opening up PS5 preorders early and as a result many other retailers followed suit. Within hours of the PS5 price reveal and showcase claims and receipts on Twitter started showing up for secured PS5 preorders from Target, Best Buy, GameStop and others. While it’s awesome the next generation of consoles is finally here, snagging a PS5 at launch might be a little harder than anyone anticipated during these “trying times.” So...tune in to Inside Gaming Daily or whatever, while we frantically refresh all these browser windows.

7PM(from waking up from a nap and seeing posts that Pre-orders were up) to 1 goddamn AM of refreshing multiple retailer sites i finally got my Disc Edition from goddamn bestbuy
When talking about the Ps5 pre-order fiasco I feel an important detail that needs mentioning is that not only was Walmart the first retailer to go live with pre-orders, they did so with the tweet saying "Make you wait to get the new #PlayStation5? Nah, that’s not like us. Go on, preorder it NOW!" basically saying fuck you sony we ain't gonna wait for shit.
Does anyone else feel like this is such non-news? I feel like we should all of seen a huge number of pre-orders. Who is is still preordering? Why not just pick one up when it’s available?
Sony will be supplying PS5s to areas to spread out distribution geographically so as to have as many people see them as possible even if they can't get one due to production not keeping up with demand, this benefits Sony in gradually reducing production costs, maintaining demand and word of mouth and friends having one pushing other friend to get one to sell more PS5s... though they will concentrate on Core markets and supplying the USA will be down near the bottom of their priorities given how much more important their Japanese and European markets are to them. Pretty much the reverse for the XBox, but then that is little surprise given how little effort is put into internationalisation for XBox games. That's their choice and if they don't change then neither will their success over the long term.
The increase in price is no surprise and the subscription model is indeed potentially a huge failure for any company that fails to convert and maintain enough users to the model to maintain the profits for the devs who sign up. Remember that any game that is provided free on these services has to make approximately as much money as it would have not on the service or else somebody's shareholders somewhere are going to get real pissed, real quick! :/ - That is why fewer and fewer AAA titles are turning up on free Ubisoft's PC launcher and why it increasingly become the case on XBox live and the like as Microsoft reduces its subsidies of the service in a bid to make it profitable... buying all those game studios is one way of doing that but there is a limit to efficiency when there is a minimum fixed resource cost (in this case man hours). Sony (the parent company) is not interested in subsidising its gaming division to make the subscription service viable so it is never going to be as good but it is playing a longer game and hoping to drive more realistic prices into the market as this is (inevitably) improve the profitability of ALL parts of its company, being in entertainment more expensive gaming means benefits for other parts of its company if people move where they entertain themselves... XBox does not have this since Microsoft is an enterprise software company so driving people to work more is the only synergy it could benefit from... and that's not going to happen since most of Microsoft's profits come from huge companies, not individual choices - most of whom are not going to choose to work more if their entertainment becomes more expensive... so XBox is trying to drive Sony out of the market (at least the USAian market) quickly so that it can monopolise it - this is unlikely to work but it's their best chance to get one up on Sony, at least in their own back yard...
