Let's be honest - exclusives aren't going anywhere any time soon. And for the console base, that's a good thing. When I look at which console I should buy, my decision is informed by the exclusives for the system, the games you can't play anywhere else. It's why, once I have the extra cash, my next console (And first non-retro console in years, I'm primarily a PC person) will be a Nintendo Switch, because the exclusives are more interesting for me than the exclusives for PS4 or Xbox One. On the PC, my position is a more nuanced one. On one hand, the way Epic is handling the acquisition of exclusive titles is terrible and infuriating, making it feel like they're "poaching" games from Steam that were promised for the platform, such as Borderlands 3. On the other hand, launcher exclusivity on PC could prevent something no one wants - a lawsuit against Valve over having a monopoly on the digital game market on PC, forcing Valve to either give exclusives over to other launchers anyway, or possibly even something similar to what happened to AT&T when they had a practical monopoly over phone networks, forcing them to break apart and give away large portions of what they had to other companies, something that would be absolutely disastrous for the PC gaming market.
