I have the game, I've got like 10-15 hours in, and the game play is great, it's not for every one but I love it....the story is trash, shit garbage trash lol. The world is pretty cool but it's very clearly written by some one who doesn't know a goddamn thing about the US or it's citizens, which really is fine, but then to say that US people just don't get it is disingenuous at best lol. The games story is so far up it's own ass it has to chew it's breakfast twice, and I am genuinely put off by the idea that the US "dies" with the president and that the only way to keep it going is to get the presidents kid to take over. Complete ignorance about pretty much every idea that made the USA. I'm glad that Kojima got to make his game, but he really is off the rails a bit here about the whole "It's going to reconnect every one" lol. It seems a bit worse too as while the main game is not about combat, there is combat in it that is unavoidable, and it's got like terrorists and shit in it and I'm pretty sure that at some point I'll get a gun and be able to waste any one who gives me trouble. Whatever, as long as I get to deliver my packages it's all good. We always have trouble understanding people from other countries and I'm not going to rip Kojima for it, but maybe don't call your characters what they are, like Porter the porter and Strand who wants to make new strands, and have every one in the game saying that we got screwed by being to connected and the only way to fix it is to reconnect.... IDK may be it all works in the end. Anyway, it's super fun to move around the world and pee on peoples stuff so I'll keep playing, and the music is just fantastic. No spoilers BTW this is all in the first 2 hours of cut scenes.
@woard well.. the kid takes over but no one knows.. because the president obviously did something so important (i dont know what yet), no other person can do that.
we had such things with other countries, Tito for example in former Jugoslavia was practically the only person who could keep those countries together in times of hate and crisis..
i quite like the story, and the cinematography of the cutscenes is phenomenal ^^ whenever mikkelsen appears.. woah..
also yes you get a gun, but you are told to not use it.. i dont know what happens if you do, i think it wont be a voidout, which would be the lore thing to happen!? or does that only happen when a live person is taken by a BT which would explain why the guy in the very beginning is trying so hard to kill himself?
but more BTs will appear in that region they say in game.. you get non lethal equipment though.
i find it all very interesting.. especially that the world is so strange.
@woard As regards the plot and the USA collapsing because the President dies... have you really thought about all the other apocalypse games out there and how they deal with this? You get the whole range of President dies and the USA becomes an anarchic wasteland to the entire country is nuked to kingdom come but almost nothing changes in terms of society except there are more poor people and mutants/zombies/whatever... most plots for the end of the world don't make sense because there is so much that would likely change that it is difficult to make it relatable enough for the player to undertand what is going on... Kojima has never worried about that in his plots in the past, why would anyone expect him to start now... especially after the advertising campaign for this game... there was no way anyone could argue the plot was going to be some simple kids story like "Cowboys in the future but after WWIII", that is just not his style.
Maybe i would support Kojima by buying and playing and probably loving the game if it wasnt a PS4 exclusive. Which I don't have... and have to wait half a year for it to be on PC so yeah.
id like to see what he says to everyone in the United States who haven't bought a FPS all year. The best part of all of this is the fact he retweeted a picture of fake reviews that said the game was good
@Lucif_Exire He was talking about reviews from American outlets... I'm sure that like any person with even a modicum of travel and meeting foreigners he would understand that everyone is different and that plenty of American gamers don't play FPSs, the point is though, is that American reviewers are more used to FPSs because so many come out in the USA and so things that are not that (especially things that might superficially at a glance look like one) are going to suffer frm those reviews who are used to playing lots of FPSs... just like a game that looks like, but isn't, a JRPG would review badly in Japan. Reviewers play too many games from their own region to be unbiased when it comes to games outside that regions core production. And you might say well it's in English so clearly it must be targetted at America and I'd remind you that most AAAs get translations into most of the world's main (gaming) languages (English, French, Spanish, Korean and Japanese) and also there are lots of places in the world that speak English that are not America (the home of English for a start).
Never diss metal gear. That series is legendary and has a special place in my heart. Not saying you're not entitled to your opinion, but don't be saying MGS games don't deserve perfect scores just because they're not your thing. The games are deeper than your gameplay preferences.
@GeraltTheWhiteWolf I fucking love those games, but they sure as shit are not perfect. EVERY game has flaws and if you can’t admit that about your favorites than you were clearly too busy gushing like a fanboy while playing it to actually pay any attention to the quality of the game. Which is okay, you know. You weren’t paid to be genuinely critical about the game, so you can continue to tell yourself that they are perfect and absolutely flawless games if that’s what makes you feel better. Just don’t go telling actual critics that they just didn’t get it because they didn’t think the game was 100% perfect in every way.
@wyrmslayer1991 Obviously someone besides myself thinks they are. And let me redefine my definition of perfection. Obviously there's no such thing as a game that's absolutely flawless, I mean look at our species for fuck's sake. A perfect score (eg a 10/10) in my opinion is just the highest praise one is capable of giving. Sure, not everyone's going to agree with that praise and I'll be honest, I was being a little bit dramatic. It's a series I love and I can't be expected to be 100% objective when it comes to it. What you witnessed was me over-nerding out. This isn't me all the time. That's a bit hard to envision when all you have is my singular comment to judge, so I understand.
@GeraltTheWhiteWolf I’ve done the same thing man. I totally understand. Sorry for jumping down your throat so aggressively about it. I certainly got worked up as well!
As someone sick of the toxic nonsense that comes out of the communities surrounding hyper competitive games, I dig Kojima's approach.
(Lookin' at you, Blizzard.)
Kojima has a point that Americans prefer FPSs (a genre that essentially was invented in the USA) and so I can see reviewers and other hardcore games from there finding it harder to play because they are less experienced at other types of gameplay, that is not to say that Ozzies are not also going to take issue with it (Ozzies also have a strong affinity for FPSs) or that it makes gamers from these regions worse or better at games in general, just that people from different cultural backgrounds will have different game genre choices and availability in their languages (assuming that is a factor in their chosen genre(s)) and their experience in other genres will, necessarily, be more liited and so they are less likely to be so good at them starting out... which is where reviews fall down, they are a limited look, with almost no time for familiarisation, at the life of a product that in many cases has not even released meaning that social elements of a game are almost certainly going to look terrible to anyone, American or not, never mind elements that build up over time in a shared world... just look at a fresh Minecraft world compared to an old server with hundreds of players that have been building for several years... never mind the world, even the gameplay completely changes!
