Next Xbox Won't Use Discs?

Hypothetically, if Microsoft takes a loss on selling consoles, would it not be very profitable to get Game Pass on a console like the Switch?

I’ve got a switch with about 20 games and the only two that are physical are breath of the wild and smash ultimate.

The only way I'm ok with having all digital is if I can sell game licenses to other people and buy them from other people like used digital games or like or steam kind of does it I guess.

I much prefer digital purchases but I live in an area with poor internert service (max of 25mb down and 5mb up plus low data caps [100gb/mo] that can result in packet deprioritization to straight up throttling) so regular 20-60gb downloads are a pipe dream until I can move. Even with games pass I have to rent the disc to install before using digital to just get the ability to launch the game whenever I want. I'm an xbox fan at heart but when it comes to the next gen consoles my money is gonna go to the most powerful console with a disc drive.

Meh. I like physical media. I let my friends borrow my games. There's advantages and disadvantages to both pysical and digital entertainment mediums. I find it odd that the conversation about digital/physical media is always about how long until one completely takes over, when the reality could just as easily be that it'll level out according to people's preferences. 50/50, 30/70, who knows. The option to choose digital over physical is still new enough that a lot of people are still just figuring out which one they prefer, and since physical was the only option before, then of course it's going to keep going down... until it either levels out or gets takes over. My bet's on leveling out. Are there any statistics on the actual rate of conversion to digital over the past few years, rather than just the simple digital units vs physical units sold? Like, of course a ton of people started converting when it first became an option. But has that rate of conversion remained steady? I doubt it, but I don't know. Speaking of simple units sold statistics, those early statistics y'all gave were obnoxiously missleading since they included mobile, which is ubiquitous and digital-only by default. The playstation statistics were the only ones that were actually relevent to discussion since the platform actually had the capacity to accept both mediums, and it was still dancing around the half-way mark. I think the only way the industry will go digital-only is if all the companies force it against the preferences of an enormous percentage of their users. Which they may very well do at some point, but I can't imagine all of them doing that within the next dacade. Especially not Nintendo.
