We can only hope Kotaku is dead. What a terrible rag. They had one writer that would occasionally produce good work but he'll be able to get a position with any quality publication.
While Kotaku has done some good things the bad far out strips those. Also if people on Deadspin, a SPORTS website don't like it when the bosses say you need to be writing about SPORTS then maybe they should find another job or perhaps learn to code.
This really shows off the writing I hate sometimes. So much time is spent ragging on people, designing a strawmen of people who hate Kotaku as incels who hate women in video games. Ignoring the actual shit that Kotaku has done over the years to alienate people, and the terrible reporting as well. I guess as a show dedicated to games journalism, the writers felt they had to defend Kotaku, but I fully disagree. I don't care if this was a case workers just wanting less ads, their need to plaster the page with ads is proof of how bad the site became. Goodbye Kotaku.
:puts on tin foil hat:
Could it be that G/O is being *paid* to silence Kotaku, so the games industry could do what it wants, without the risk of being reported.
:takes off tin foil hat:
It's also *really* sad to see some of the comments from people who think they know journalism and business mechanics better than those who are *currently* in journalism and business.
@Silverstein69 Entirely agree, including the tin foil hat part given how much grief Kotaku has caused the (mega)rich owners of some businesses that have been reported on by them.
@RiverRunning :puts TFH (tm) back on:
There is a very *particular* group of... people that are trying to replicate other governments..... methods. Most likely, companies like G/O Media are being bankrolled by these... "people"......
:removes TFH (tm)
Gotta agree that investment companies are the worst... they have caused a lot of UK big names to completely shutter too... gotta wonder how you manage to gut huge company legally and people still see the entire industry as one that doesn't need regulating, never mind being made illegal. They destroy economic value even if they do make a short-term gain, they are - ironically - anti-capitalist!
Considering the tendency of some of their staff to default to calling someone a nazi or alt-right troll because of minor disgreements about aspects of the gaming industry I gotta say, I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for them.
