"Players grind through content faster than anyone can make it"
Maybe if games made a solid experience and the grind was ADDITIVE it wouldn't be so bad. I know AC Odyssey got some flack for having a pretty big level gate in the campaign (which, personally, I never experienced since I got lost in conquests), however it was still praised as an incredible game and a turning point for the series. It was in-depth, compelling, had a rich story, a huge world to explore and do things, and the gear was additive and not the focus of the game. You could still use an effective stealth build with just collecting assassination stats and some minor crit buffs here and there. If you were keen on dodging and blocking, you didn't need a single bit of survivability and go full glass cannon because your skill and abilities can offset the loss
What bothers me most about these looter games is they pivot away from narrative, world, characters, and compelling gameplay in favor of trying to manipulate you in an endless loop of grind so you stick around. The thing is, if your game is really good, you don't need that much more "loop grind" to keep players interested, and the people that do inevitably walk away feel more fulfilled in their purchase because they finished on a game that was simply A GOOD GAME
@Dogking Legitimately one of my favorite games of all time. I just found out there was a steam version a few weeks ago and have been going through it again- it's still as good as I remember.
okay but heres the way you do rpg games as a serice you steal the r6 seige game plan okay you sell 60$ dlc yearly so you get your base 60 dollar 60$ pass for quarterly story based dlc expansions then for your whales you put in a skins system cause random hodge podge ass looking equipment looks crappy but often gives the best stat bumps for your characters and sell skins and possibly weapon skins so you can wear what ever armor and gain stat buffs but have the look of matching plate or you know sell bikini armor and maid out fit for all the lonely people looking to make their perfect wifu ect and if your gunna have loot boxes maybe its for that shit and then maybe and this is a push but Maybe you have sepperate one time purchases for post release new character classe/races that have new mechanics for the game and add in new dialogue like instead of elven racism you get treated like a monster playing as the new orc race ect and by year three they can add the 4th wall breaking dlc where your character uses time manipulation magic to fuck shepard on the normandy
Not sure if it was intentional, but when Lawrence started talking about "any company that is successful for a long period of time starts to forget what actually made it successful..." it immediately cut to Achievement Hunter footage. that made my laugh.
