Dude I JUST stared pc gaming and using steam. I seriously don’t wanna try whatever Epic is trying to push on people.

No one addresses the biggest point here, and that's that Epic doesn't have secure enough procedures or databases to get away with taking the info they are. All it'll take to ruin their launcher is a determined black-hat hacker. Monopolies are monopolies even in the gaming industry, and that's what these exclusivity deals are. Sure, if Walmart doesn't carry a copy of something, that's a decision they made. They aren't being forced by Target not to sell the product, they just chose not to. Exclusivity deals are market bullying, and will destroy the gaming industry as we know it. We're already split with exclusive games to specific consoles and all the problems that come with that, but that's up to the developer what platforms to sell on. Once marketers get control like this, it'll become a bidding war for any AAA game and that is NOT a good thing for the gamers, because if they want to use one platform, they don't get a choice. I will not be giving the Epic Launcher any money. They will not get my credit card information so some guy with a well-made program can steal it from them. And if that means I miss out on some great games, so be it. This. is. Wrong.

Competition is a good thing. I know how elitist PC gamers are but hopefully they’ll come to realize this is going to be good in the end

@ShaunRigby Besides. We call it competition when sony or microsoft step up and snag an exclusive. What else would you call it at this point? One company is taking advantage of a long time market practice, and the other is being lazy and not doing so because it considers itself king of the hill already.

@BlackIce428 That was from Valve's advertisement for their Steam controller. It was *designed specifically* to allow you to play non-controller games with a controller. Complicated keyboard and mouse input can be reproduced using various thumb gestures on its two big trackpads. From what I read it's actually pretty decent, although I haven't had the chance to try one myself.

exclusives are anti-competitive not because it is a pain to download epic store but because if say steam also had the title then consumers would be able to compare prices between the two stores. If they are the same nothing happens but then suddenly twice a year steam sale happens and all those titles are 20-50% off and so epic loses out because people buy at the lower price so in response epic lowers its pricing in order to pull users back from steam. It all ends when prices can't be lowered anymore or the lower price isn't pulling enough users to justify it. That makes the actual best price for consumers and it is unlikely to reach this price organically without competition. That is why exclusive titles and lack of competition is inherently bad for consumers and why even if the stores are free it isnt actually "competition"

How is "either you buy it from our store now or you can fuck off and buy it somewhere else a year later" providing consumers with an acceptable choice to promote competition? Right now the consumers aren't getting anything out of this. The only people that benefit in this situation are the developers. Now I'm not saying that's a bad thing but if that's basically the choice they're offering me of course I'm not gonna wait a whole year to play the newest games. So where exactly is this competition they're saying exists here? And of course they're going to have millions of downloads when they're offering a free game every 2 weeks. News flash for everybody, people like free shit so of course they're gonna take advantage of it. But then they're gonna turn around and use those numbers to justify what they're doing? I feel like everyone around me is taking crazy pills on this issue.

@JonnyVicious Because it gives valve an actual competitor and stops them having a monopoly? Otherwise any pc game no on steam was at an immediate disadvantage. Also, money for devs on pc games are super important, the games are regularly cheaper on pc, and loads of people wait unti steam sales to buy them, plus piracy is much more frequent on pc than other gaming platforms.

@JonnyVicious I agree, besides if Epic wants more money on their exclusive games they just raise the price until their cut is what they want. Again it would give devs a bigger profit but it seems an easy way for Epic to set the price for premium titles, and if they set it high enough who will buy it?

Competition is good. If Valve is forced to find other ways to make money, maybe we'll finally get HL3, TF3, LFD3, and Portal 3

Funnily enough, the only times I've ever had trouble loading up Steam is when my internet is on the fritz or when my whole laptop is about to kick the bucket.
