while Valve will no doubt say its best on index i don't see it managing to be a killer app for the index if the game is compatible with so many other headsets, Index is just too expensive.

I'd argue they're doing it to try and bring VR back to the forefront instead of just a niche technology. That's why they're making it available for all VR types.
