You can still grind for them, yeah you can't just get one and then be done with it now they are making you play their game if you want a shader. And if you don't want to play the game that you bought you can spend money to skip content and get the shaders without doing the missions required for them. Yeah kinda of a bummer you can't keep them forever, but now it's like most other MMO where you have to choose what gear you transmute or shade wisely. If they took shaders and put them 100% behind a paywall then yeah be angry, but you can still get them from playing the game, and i thought you liked it so why don't you want to play it more?
Funny, im saving up everything. Mods, shaders, consumables etc until I get set gear I want to use for a while because of this stupid new system.
What I took away from this was #BungiePlease. Yes, I know I'm terrible.
People buy the bright engrams which you can get for free as long as you're willing to put in the time? The mechanic wouldn't be so bad if you could choose to remove the shader and not destroy them.
This certainly won't stop me from playing the game entirely, but it is an annoying change, in that rather than create new content for microtransactions they essentially took away part of a feature which was normally available and easily accessible for free in the previous game.
As someone who's "patiently" waiting for Destiny 2 on PC to release, I can only hope they fix this stuff before the release.
It's a pretty simple concept, if you're going to add microtransactions, you don't screw around with the already-established stuff. If they just spent half the creativity it takes to come up with these "grey areas" to exploit, I'm sure they could come up with new add-ons to attach microtransactions to. TF2 did it for years (strange, vintage, australium, killstreak, etc...). On a related note, TF2 basically has the exact same thing as shaders, paint buckets. But to my knowledge, they didn't have a free predecessor to point to and get pissed off about. On the other hand, TF2 does't have armor that gets upgraded all the time, so if you like your hat/misc item and paint it, you can use it for years and be fine. I did.
This honestly isn't a huge deal. You get lootboxes for leveling up past 20. I have wayyyy too many shaders.
It isn't that there won't be enough shaders, than they intentionally changed it to make it more appealing to increase sale of real money transactions. It's a clear move to generate money than actually look after their fans who already invested in a previous game.
It's a tried and true concept that micro-transactions make money. There is a huge amount of free shaders. I don't think anyone actually playing the game feels like they're suffering from this (or at least the community I belong to hasn't said anything)
I think everyone just got up in arms about it before they realized how easy it was to still get shaders.
