2017
Next Season
I'm still not sure what people are talking about. 6-7 years seems like the average. 2013 was 4 years ago. "working on a console" probably means it's like 2 years away. And according to my fancy shmancy college degree, 2 + 4 = 6. So, nah, I don't think it's too soon. I think people are just getting older, so 6-7 years seems like less time. Back when we were 12, 6 years was literally half of our entire life.
Also, why do people keep talking about backwards compatibility like it's a new feature of this crazy "genless" world they want to promote. It's not new, they just decided to take it away for a while and we're finally getting it back because they realize people want it.
I'll be happy to acknowledge the "genless" console era when my Xbone turns out to be FORWARDS compatible with games coming out a decade from now. Until then, I think this whole thing is just a marketing ploy meant to sucker us in by taking advantage of our hopes of what could be. The moment they make a game that only runs on the most modern console, it's all over, and we're right back where we started.
You're not wrong, but I think most people, myself included, were hoping that the generations were getting longer on average. Last one lasted about 8, longer if you consider how long the PS3 was still being produced and new games still being released.
