Fan Games Will RUIN YOUR LIFE?

I don't think he's that far off. It's true that a lot of the reasoning behind making a fangame in the first place is passion/nostalgia-driven with no monetary gain in mind. But I'm fairly certain that another significant part of it is for people to expand their creative and programming skills and be able to say "hey, I did that" afterwards as a way of showcasing their capabilities.

@Phatnaru Well yes, of coarse I'm making assumptions. Every project will be different as are the reasons for them trying to complete it.

But my point is why waste the time and energy to develop a fan game, when you can take that inspiration to create something original. After that there's nothing really stopping you from placing an homage or nod to the source of that inspiration.

To my knowledge Project M wasn't actually DCMA'd at least not officially. But the team behind it realized that if they truly wanted to move forward as being a game developer they'd have to drop the project and move on with an original IP to make money and better fund themselves.

its even worse when you know how woolie describes his own channel and how next to that you get a "i hate my life why i am doing this" naruto playthrough and bad greenscreen videos.
