Thanks for saying that bit at the end. When the Xbox One launched, IT didn't come with any games or peripherals besides the Kinect no one wanted, and had a 500GB hard drive which nowadays holds maybe 10 current-gen AAA games.. I don't see why everyone's complaining about how much everything for the Switch costs.
watching this from aus and crying as to how much more ive already spent on this thing
nobody's holding a gun to your head to buy it. especially in aus..
what their offering just doesn't add up close to the overall cost. but that's just one consumers opinion.
Mica's tank top is pretty awesome, or on fleek as the kids would say.
Not sure if I'd really characterize any of these as "hidden" costs. As expensive as the extras are, they seem pretty up front about it, and are all optional to begin with. Games, extra controllers, and extra cables are pretty much the norm for any console. The usb-c thing's obviously an upgrade in capability, and they've provided everything that they always have for it (a wall plug) already. I'm not sold on the idea of the necessity of case, screen-protector, or extra storage yet, but time will tell.
I agree. If you compare it to a traditional handheld then yes, it is prohibitively more expensive. But as a console it really isn't that out of line with the rest.
Extra official controllers are always painful and the case/protector/charger are only really needed if you are going handheld for the majority of your time. The lack of game box-in is actually pretty typical for day one but I am sure that in 6 months or so you will see one which if you didn't preorder will be about when you might actually be able to get a hold of one.
Mica's playing Botw right now!! let her not play on release day stream!!
100 more reasons for me not to.... switch. xD
Oh my god I didn't know about the controller thing! Welp, guess thats another $40 day one. Your crazy if you think I'm going to switch (pun intended) to portable mode while playing BOTW. Ill only do that while I take a shit.
keep in mind, those joycons are "supposed" to last for 20 hrs of gameplay from a full charge. If they're anywhere close to that, and you aren't prone to 20-hr gaming sprees, then all you have to do is dock them at night when you sleep.
Eventually, I'm sure the battery life will worsen and the recharging shell controller will make more sense, but I wouldn't expect that to come up any time soon. So, probably not quite a day-one issue, if an issue at all. On principal though, I agree. A charge-and-play method for console mode should have been the default.
Good point. Thanks, you just saved me (at least for the time being) $40! Your true blue man.
A small "unhidden" cost: Both the Pro Controller and the Charging Grip come with a USB-C cable, so if you were planning on getting one/both of those then you don't need to worry about getting a separate cable as you'd be able to use the one that comes with those controllers.
