they do basically have a monopoly...
And most of us are fine with that.
It's not like it's unfair, it's just no one has enough grip to take a chunk of the business, honestly no one has even tried that hard.
People like this guy are a cancer. Everything has to be the best or the worst and there is no middle ground. Compromise is a very important thing in life and the good aspects of valve out way the bad things in my opinion. They do have terrible customer service though, even if it's getting better.
"outweigh" ;)
Valve did get raked over the coals about bundling Steam with Half-Life 2, the argument about using free user labour is just crazy, how many businesses the size of Valve have not been to court? and have you ever tried to return a physical copy of a game to Game or Gamestop???
Yes, people make excuses for Valve but then again they do it for many other companies that they also feel generally positive towards (which is usually because they earned it). As for unlimited goodwill... this is the internet; how long has the writer been using it? there is NO "unlimited goodwill" anywhere here and it you think that way you are liable to loose it on the instant (because that is the warning you will get) - as the writer is about to find out; raked over the coals indeed...
I feel like you could do this with any company. Look at Comcast adding data caps for instance, or Tesla taking away free charging. Companies make decisions as they are financially beneficial, not because they hate you.
