Next Season
This just makes me want more gaming history videos. Can this be a new series that we get like once a month or something? Please?
Really liking the deep dive! I hope there are more to come!
Your brief mention of the controller made me remember how much I hated it. Something about it just didn't agree with my hands, and I can still feel my index fingers cramp up at the thought of it. IIRC my one friend had a non-standard controller at his place, and if I wasn't using that one I could only play for ~20min at a time before I couldn't stand it.
That's about how I was for the Gamecube controller. A bit too wonky and oddly designed to feel comfortable using it, at least for me......
But when I played Sonic Adventure 2, the controller would show sonic's face. How could that fail?
I call BS...
Am I the only one seeing the Switch in a lot of what the say? History repeats? On the other hand at least Nintendo has its library and brand so becoming a third party developer would probably do them some good (especially if they went the Netflix route) or at lest better than saga did. . .
I recognized that as well when they discussed the predicament that the company was in due to the Saturn. You could argue Nintendo had a similar issue due to the WiiU. 1 "failed" console won't destroy a console company, but 2 will. I think Nintendo has broken away from that fate with the success of the Switch, but I suppose time will tell.
Dreamcast Worlds: A Design history is a great book to read about this subject. It goes over the console history, three of the major titles, and the console's ultimate cancellation. IIRC Sega Headquarters had already decided to stop making consoles before the Dreamcast came to America. I believe that the 500,000 Ashley referenced was just a lofty goal they figured would never come to pass and it didn't. But it was Microsoft that worked on their online connectivity for the Dreamcast, which they would later add into the Xbox, so there's that.
Huh. Neat.
This was awesome, would love more in-depth stories like this!
Rip Dreamcast. You will always be missed
