2017
Next Season
Also available in NZ, which I believe is not the case for PS Now, and it is without the "AU/NZ" tax where things are usually overpriced here. Just NZ$10.99/mth which is incredibly great value.
Thanks to Games with Gold, I have some of the games that will be available. It's a nice idea but not for me.
For what it is (yet another subscription service that replaces the need for ownership), it appears to be well done. But I dislike the idea behind what it is to begin with, so I have no interest in it. And that was before I was aware that games could just up and disappear from the library. Eww.
Nah. I think the monthly subscription service model has run its course at this point. Especially for games I already own.
Originally I was for it as a concept for new console owners - Shazam! Instant library! And for the price of a full retail AAA game, you could have a continuous, rotational library of 100+ games for six months! - And I already figured, from seeing it in the Alpha preview, that it wouldn't be for me, as I buy most of the games I want to play (albeit somewhat irresponsibly).
But the more and more I think about it, ten bucks is not a lot of money to shell out for trying a bunch of games I might not otherwise try. Far better than anything else available at the moment, even. Does the backwards-compatible portion of the Games Pass seem a little over-large? Sure. But there's a good forty-something games in the catalog right now that I haven't even given a second thought about, and if even a quarter of those are worth a dollar to try, then technically, the Games Pass has value. Especially since, as mentioned in the vid, you can purchase the games in the service at a discount. And that's not even getting into how easily one could pad gamerscore with it.
Honestly, I think it's one of those things that might be ahead of its time, but is exactly what needs to be done to (a.) help consumers make more informed purchasing decisions by giving them a chance to try out more games, and (b.) make America great again game rentals relevant again. As long as it doesn't replace purchasing games, it really benefits everyone.
It's not perfect, but it's there.
That should be their tagline.
