Next Season
I'm still holding out.
But it would nice to have one though.
How much of the apparent continued demand is due to resellers buying up the supply? Whenever I look at Amazon there are Switches available at a big mark-up from third-party sellers. I don't want one badly enough to pay more than MSRP, but as long as there are some consumers who will pay 33-50% more or higher the current situation seems unlikely to change.
Yeah, these console shortages (whether it's a component issue regarding the Switch, or intentionally done with the NES Classic and SNES Classic), are a pretty big factor in discouraging me personally from pursuing Nintendo's consoles. The demand for these consoles is so absurdly high, and the supply correspondingly absurdly low, that I've basically written off trying to get a Switch or an SNES Classic. That frustration is real where the demand is so high that it actually bottoms out and crashes if supply can't keep up. After all, how long can you realistically want something you just can't have? Something has to give.
That being said, at least with the Switch not being a "limited release" like the SNES Classic, there is still hope of getting one in the future. Perhaps when these supply issues are finally resolved. Right now, I just can't justify pursuing a Switch, with marginal chances of actually being successful, if the only games I would play right now would be Legend of Zelda and Mario Kart. Fortunately, there are plenty of other games coming soon that might be more of a justification when taken in total, like Super Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids, and Pokemon (whenever that ultimately comes out). Right now though, my personal demand for the Switch has bottomed out due to these discouraging shortages.
How long after the launch date of a console is still considered part of the "launch window" of the console? When comparing the Switch and PS4, they said Switch has sold less than PS4 in 4 months, so it can't claim best console launch, yet. Why is that a "yet" statement? If 4 months after it came out, it's still behind, wouldn't that already mean it has not had the best launch period? It could still surpass the PS4, but I would not call it having a better launch with this much time passed. Or maybe I'm wrong, what does everyone consider to be the "launch window" of a console? 6 Months? A year? More?
