Since digital is winning, can we get lowered priced games yet?
We will never see the prices lower, sadly. Just not how this industry will ever work. Games have been $60 for well over a decade now while inflation has over doubled everything else. Be happy they're still $60, even if there is $40 in DLC. Production and advertisement budgets have to be ever increasing in today's world to keep producing the level of content they are.
I'm certain we'll eventually see a typical difference in price between physical and digital games, but nothing's gonna get lowered. Physical will probably just start costing more.
That would be counter to the previous informative piece about how games are priced at $60 flat for the last 3 generations. There was also a video about how the AAA game model is unsustainable in a realistic generic scenario. It's a nice sentiment, but greed is too powerful so the higher profit margin means it'll never happen. They also said in this video how everyone is keeping it there to appease physical retailers because that's still a significant portion of revenue. While it's true it would push more sales to digital, there are enough people that still buy physical who would end up as a lost sale since they have reasons they haven't gone digital yet. Several might make the leap, but the industry as a whole would lose a huge chunk of income because of the price change for digital. It'll stay the same so in the end, it doesn't even matter
I bet Burnie just got the biggest hard-on when this news broke
And when Ashley said "That's a lot of money"
I still prefer physical whenever possible, it's only an hour and a half walk to EB Games and back, with an additional thirty minutes install minus any patch downloads, whereas I find going digital for a AAA game is anywhere between 18-36 hours download time. Tasmania's Internet (Non-NBN) is kinda shit.
gods i think the last physical game i got was fallout 4. and that was just for the collector's Pip boy addition. and i can't even remember the one before that..
I'm an Eddie, I do my best to be physical only. I keep what I like and am likely to replay; then I trade/resell the others.
I always buy physical when it's an option. I like the novelty of it as well the security of accessing it manually. If I lose or break a physical game, that's on me, it's my responsibility, and I'm okay with that. If I suddenly can't access a digital game due to some stupid network or DRM issue, then someone else is responsible for MY problem; and I don't like that.
I used to only do physical because there was never enough space on my console for everything. After I (mistakenly) thought I lost all my games, I only had my digital copies left. My library was only about 50% gone when that happened. Since then, pretty much everything I purchased has been purely digital, however for PS4 I had a lot of physical games because they were cheaper and I was 2 years behind on it. I played what I wanted (mostly single player games), then sold them all and kept my multiplayer titles, as well as games that were on sale, as digital. The most convenient thing is being able to swap games without having to mess with a disc or case. The most inconvenient thing is hard drive space. I constantly fill it up every time there's an update for Destiny. However, I have an unlimited data plan for my internet so it's no problem to delete something and download it later. Overall though, I'm happier that I switched to digital, but I'll consider physical if it's cheap enough.
