The only free to play games i touch are world of tanks and world of warships. And on both games iv spent maybe sixty or so dollars in the past two years. I will NEVER touch one of those phone app money sinks.
Thank you Mica, you're why I can have nice things for free :D - haven't spent a penny on P2W games (or even ones that are not) ever, you're the money behind my addition ;)
I have spent $40 in Hearthstone and $40 in World of Warships.
That is total amount money I have spent in microtransactions across all games.
Games need to earn my money before I bring out my wallet. In other words, the game need to be pretty damn good in order for me to spend my money.
While I don't really like micro transactions, shaming people for how they spend their money isn't really nice either
I love micro transactions. Rainbow six siege and Halo 5 give free dlc because of them. So I pay nothing for what I use to pay over $100 on. skins don't faze me. Except I bought 2 skins in siege. $10 total. Better than the avg $40-$80 for the amout of dlc I got.
The Adweek study seemed extremely interesting to me, but I do think the link is broken. :-/
I think if a game does it right, it can work out. Destiny started out a bit rocky, but they have it balanced fairly decently now. While most people won't touch the silver, I put in at least $50 so far since Rise of Iron. The free updates are the only reason I even bother buying that currency though. I think I bought one emote and the rest went into loot boxes which contained cosmetic armor and items. Overall, it's a game I spend a ton of time in and enjoy so it doesn't faze me at all to spend that much money on it. I would buy more but at a certain point, it becomes useless to buy stuff since it doesn't give you anything new (until the next update).
Actually if youve been playing recently they have been throwing special
events out like candy for those characters. Ive gotten both characters
mentioned because of this. Now leveling them up on the other hand is
almost impossible. But im rank like 300 something and ive yet to
encounter these characters in "PVP". Also ive never spent money on the game and I've done pretty well for myself
I generally don't like micro-transactions, but as long as they only add extra aesthetic perks and not functional gameplay-effecting perks, then I don't mind them. Paying for increased rates of "random" items really gets into murky waters though.
I have played Gems of War, Marvel Puzzle Quest, Pokémon Go, and now Fire Emblem Heroes and haven't gotten to the point where I felt I needed to spend money to progress in any of them. The only time I've ever felt the urge to spend money is in FE and that was only because they're doing a launch event where you've got an increased chance to get some characters and one of them is my favorite in the franchise.
My general feeling is that I am fine spending money on stuff I enjoy, because it encourages the devs to make more.
That said, Fate/Grand Order is about to have a valentine's event and I desperately need to be stopped before I spend hella money to try to get MHX (Alter)
