If Square Enix shoots itself in the foot with it's own stupidity we will at least be given a definite answer to the maybe game when Square Enix takes itself out.
Sigh...Rest in Peace my beloved KH3...I used to love Square Enix because they released massive games that worked near flawlessly with tons of content. Now...well fuck. I don't want to start KH3 in 2018 and finish it in 2020...or later. FUCK
This is honestly heartbreaking, best scenario is episodic at this point? like I can't even be mad I just want to cry.
I feel like Tetsuya Nomura will be the death of Square Enix. Just about every game that he directs ends up taking multiple decades to complete and now they're still not even done when they release. I'm just not sure I stay excited for these games anymore.
Can we use the acronym of GAAS to refer to games as a service instead of a stand alone game?
I don't like this future.
5/25/17 Sorola has dream about shitting pinto beans
5/26/17 Sorola coins term "GAaS"
Coincidence? I think not.
I'd much rather have FF7 be episodic than a trilogy in the fashion of 13. Come on. Imagine having the same world map in three different games. Not to mention not being able to do party member sidequests whenever you want. Not to mention how wonky the pacing would be if they made it three parts. 4 is the smallest number I see working (Midgar, rest of disc one, giant shell place through diamond weapon's approach, return to Midgar through boss fight) so smaller episodes would be way more preferable than paying $60 every year and a half.
And with Kingdom Hearts' "2.897 Second Last Interlude to the Fifth Power Twice Removed: Dawn of Cryptic Awakeningness: Volume 3.2" business model, it's already basically episodic.
Would I prefer real full games? Yes. Is it terrible given the circumstances? No. Should Nomura be fired and hang out with Sean Murray and Peter Molineux? Yes.
To be fair to Kingdom Hearts, that was a collection of remasters to put all the games on one console. 2.8 was also an excuse to demo KH3's game engine and supply the KHX storyline (which is important, as are the stories of all KH spinoffs (Yes, even Coded)) to the west.
@ZackOsbourne They could've done what FFXV did with FF Type-0 and include a demo of the new game with the remaster.
@DavidtheWavid ... But that's what 0.2 was. It set up the beginning of KH3's plot, and showed off the game engine and the basic combat mechanics, much like the demo for FFXV.
@ZackOsbourne Well, I didn't play it. I just assumed something with a different number and "prologue" in the title wouldn't actually be part of the game. Sounds more Ground Zeroes than Duscae to me.
I don't mind long development times, so long as they use that time to FINISH THE DAMN GAME. And while I don't mind FF7 being split up, as it gives opportunity to add the full extended story to the game (Crisis Core, Avent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus) KH3 does not lend itself well to that format AT ALL. It's infamous for having a long, convoluted story that makes no sense to those who can't grasp it in it's entirety, so splitting it up will only make it worse. Here's hoping Disney slaps some sense into them before it goes too far.
Services could do well but if you have to pay a freaking ton of money people would like the older model better and profits might drop a little ( i beleive final fantasy would work with this model but but i agree with ZackOsbourne comment saying it would not work with kingdom hearts also if you split the stories epsiodic or have dlc like i said earlier don't charge lots of $$$$$$$$ or you might lose the interest or people can't afford the price. also releasing the game early with bugs might also make people reconsider buying games ( although you start at a less rate maybe people would choose to get it early. I also prefer the standalone system to games although games are doing good likethis way to. IN CONCLUSION MAKE SURE YOU DON'T CHARGE LOTS EITHER WISE I BELIEVE ANY COMPANY WILL GET LESS PEOPLE INTERESTED.
so would all the teasers for GAAS type games, and not delivering on them, be considered.... "GAAS-lighting"
hahahahaha, ill show myself out...
I don't particularly mind the waiting thing, but the GAAS part just sounds obnoxious and potentially bad as a standard for these types of games.
