such a shame this is gonna end up as a mark against such a good game. even if they fix it people will hold a grudge....
In the UK due to not being mentioned on the Steam page it is a breach of Trading Standards - particularly due to the online requirement. Talking of which; how many people don't have online access for their game PC amongst gamers? LOTS. Lots of gamers are kids and lots of kids do not have control over their use of Internet access and lots of parents are starting to realise that giving their child constant access is a bad idea without understanding the issues involved in DRM - they think their child has a computer and a game, what is the problem? And I'll be that a lot of parents don't trust their kid when they say they can only play a single-player game online.
If I were owners of Sonic Mania I would vote with the money and have the game refunded via Steam - review bombing only does so much... returning it without the window that Steam now gives you is a so much more effective incentive for the publisher to remove the DRM - and it is usually the publisher, not the developer, who is at fault in these cases (to be honest I'm surprised that more developers haven't started avoiding publishers who insist on using DRM... especially given the results provided by CD Project Red.
