Pay a dollar to spin the wheel-
Seven spots say PENNY, two spots says $1, and one spot says $5.
Game devs say thats not gambling because you always win something.

hmm... I dislike lootboxes quite a bit, but I'm not convinced this is the best way to "combat" them (which I assume is a lot of people's mentality behind this). Fully catagorizing them as gambling and subsequently getting the government involved would set a precedent that could have a lot of over-reaching effects into other aspects of gaming (ie, anything involving RNG) going forward, or worse, retroactively.
The point is that there are ways to make loot boxes exist when they are not gambling and the primary intention behind a lot of people's support of these types of move is to bring attention to the fact that (information-wise) loot boxes are worse than gambling... it's not even clear if there are set odds behind some of these loot boxes never mind what those odds might be... especially for the rarer loot - that's just unreasonable and crosses a lot of trading standards laws apart from anything else - whether they are gambling is a legitimate question but I think that a lot of them will not considered to be so unless they are something akin to how the CS:GO stuff used to work... as long as you can't trade things back for real world money then it's unlikely governments will go so far as to call it gambling (or else every pinball game and gambling game on a computer would count... even the slot machines in games like Bioshock that would be a pretty crazy reach...
At the end of the day, it's people's willingness to buy these loot boxes that make them a thing. If no one buys it, they will go away. But players *are* buying the loot boxes, so companies keep adding more and more things for them to buy.
it's basic chicken or egg capitalism and your saying its the chickens fault...
now for just 25 cents more i'll give you an upgraded comment!
*25 cent upgrade accepted!*
At the end of the day, it's people's willingness to buy COCAINE that make it a thing. If no one buys it, the narcos will go away. But people *are* buying coke, so the narcos keep adding more and more ways for them to buy.
I mean the items you get from the lootboxes arnt tradeable so they really have no value, some games they do however(csgo)and you can infact sell items for real $$$ if you insist(csgo) but not all game support that feature, just seems like a way to spend some money and get a bigger payoff if your lucky enough
when did gamers become such bitches? you don't like loot boxes, don't buy the fucking loot boxes
I feel games like CS:GO or PUBG have lootboxs to keep down cost and develop a community but games like FIFA and COD are just cash grabing and i have to say i much prefered CODs were camos were unlocked by game progression rather than COD points or Camo/ skins that can be bought with real money. Shadow of War includes a interesting mechanic with lootboxes but it just makes the game easier and i suggest you pay the lowest amount for the game (Not Gold) because the game does'nt need them. Full priced developed games should not have loot boxes and can take away from the game, it does with COD and Shadow of War. But CS:GO for example would be less of an experience without them, however CS:GO does have an ecomemy and community around lootboxs.
