Okay, it doesn't have many launch titles, but what did Xbox One and PS4 have? Ryse, Crimson Dragon, Knack, and Killzone 4. And Ryse and Knack were boring 2-hour tech demos. So 5 games really isn't that bad.
Dead Rising 3 man
@SeanTFlynn Fair enough. Until recently I didn't know Dead Rising had that big of a fanbase so it just kinda slipped under my radar.
Nintendo just needs to stop making hardware and just sell it's software to 3rd parties. If Mario Kart or Smash Bros was sold on the Xbox and PS4 they would make literal truckloads of money. Stop being stubborn.
OMG, Mica! You're hair is so cute!
Honestly, as much as the Switch sounds like a good idea in theory, Nintendo just hasn't offered anything hardly for the console department since the Camecube in my opinion. The Wii was a gimmick that got old quick but had some decent titles. The Wii U was "we added an enlarged DS second screen", and was bereft of any games that really stood out aside from Splatoon. And the Switch's does seem underpowered even by Nintendo standards, combined with a lack of many games. I'm going to be cautiously optimistic, but so far there hasn't been anything announced so far that didn't either leave me disappointed or saying "eh, not really that interesting". Add in that while they aren't trying to compete with Sony and Microsoft from a game style point of view, they are however pricing it at the same point that you can get one of the other consoles. I kind of get the feeling that most of the people who are preordering the Switch are the ones who consider Mario and Zelda alone as console sellers, or ones who are still overly hopeful for Nintendo to return to the quality level from their older generations.....
I find it odd that anyone's commenting or caring about a lack of disk drive. Ya'll realize this is a handheld device right? The last thing you want is moving parts (eg a disk spinner) that drain the battery super fast. (besides, cartridges are way better anyways)
The lack of a charging grip is a pretty notable let down though. That seems like a no-brainer item that should obviously come standard. I mean, the joycons are designed to accept a charge while latched on to something, so this was clearly intentional. The empty shell grip is just a waste of plastic and manufacturing. On the bright side, I heard that the joycons are supposed to last like 20 hrs, so docking them at night should still provide for all-day gaming sessions... initially anyways. But some folks will inevitably lose charge in the middle of gaming, and have to dock their joycons on the switch to charge. I guess at that point, they could resume playing in handheld mode, but being forced to do that just seems... really obnoxious.
anyways, I don't expect it to affect me much, if at all, as I'm planning on getting a pro controller. Speaking of pro controllers, anyone have any clue when those will be up for sale or pre-order in North America? cuz so far, I haven't seen any. I'd like to hear some reporting on that if there's anything to be said about it.
Totally agree that it dosn't need some disk drive, even cartridges wouldn't be necessary. If it's got an SD port, that's fine: download it, store it on an SD card, play. For those with bad interenet connexion, maybe sell the games on read-only hardware (DVDs or something) so they can just transfer the game to an SD.
So, anybody knows if the joycons can support the Switch's main battery? That would have been a great idea, like multi-purpose powerbanks. Because a 20 hrs battery life on a joycon won't help me much if the Switch dies after 3 hrs of gameplay ...
they SAY it wont replace the 3ds, but they also SAID it wouldnt replace the wii u. here we are today and news that botw being the last wii u game have been confirmed by nintendo themselves! granted i think nintendo has a dedicated home console in the works. the switch is probably just something to hold us over till then at which point itll go on as one badass mother of a handheld system.
