Easy. People buy BOTW now so that they have it when the MArio sales packs of the Switch come out later.

Maybe people buying it twice physically and digitally? Losing/breaking cartridges and having to rebuy? 

i mean i technically own 3 copies of fallout4... got special editions that are unopened and a digital copy to play, i'm guessing something similar is happening for zelda

People without Switches could be buying the game to resell on Amazon or eBay, but that would mean a LOT of people are doing this in order to push the attach rate over 100%. This is just absurd (in an awesome way).

Again, it needs to be pointed out that launch sales for a console that sells out doesn't matter. I mean, the Wii U sold almost the same as the original Wii. However, as we know...that went on to become less than 14 million versus over 100 million.

All this tells us is that they made more Switches before launch.

We see this in the charts: For week 2, the 3.5 year old PS4 outsold the Switch.

So, at this point, it could still go on to sell less than the Wii U. ( I highly doubt that. Since the Wii U sold so poorly, the Switch is that much bigger and better of an upgrade for most people. Additionally, Zelda is definitely a system seller, something the Wii U was hurting for. Which is kinda funny since Zelda is on both consoles. )

Another worry is that Nintendo somehow expects the DS line to remain unaffected. They like to claim that the Switch is a Home Console, and the DS is a Portable/Handheld...but we all know the Switch is both. You can absolutely expect there to be a fair bit of overlap, so the Switch really needs to have the legs that the Wii had.

Don't get me wrong. I'm hoping for Nintendo to do well. I was really sad to see Sega go. I just don't see it happening. The general response to the Switch was more of a "Meh."

The real tell will be this holiday season.

I know someone who's rebought the game twice, another person who bought the collectors to keep sealed and the regular to play, and even a guy who collects factory sealed copies of games in perfect condition. He usually buys about 20 of him when he does this (this includes making sure there's no weird creases in plastic wrap). So there's about 23 extra copies accounted for :P

I'm sure people have been buying them for every reason mentioned thus far, but as far as the primary reason goes, my best bet would be that people are simply buying them ahead of time with the anticipation to buy the console later. They probably would have bought the console already, given the option, but it was out of stock when they were buying. So, out of concern for the idea that the game might be out of stock when the console is available to them, they bought the first piece of their intended Nintendo experience, BotW.

As a side note, I totally bought Halo 2 before I had an XBox. But that was because my friend had an Xbox, and I knew it was Co-op/multiplayer (and I knew I'd be getting an XBox for Christmas), so it's not the best comparison for reasoning here.

It might be latinamericans buying it digitally in the us store to avoid local taxes and the increase in retail prices that has affected all things technological since trump won the elections, not because of something he has done or promised to do, but because of the fear of what he could do. Retailers have been preemptively increasing prices, expecting a revalue of the US currency that hasn't happened yet. A game at retail in latinamerica goes as least twice the price it's sold in the US, at current currency exchange rates.

PS: the same would've happened if Hillary had won, or any other candidate for that matter, everyone expected an "american" economic resurgence, no matter who the president was, just in a more sensible and predictable manner.

I think there are more sales of Zelda since there's more stock of the game than there is of consoles in the UK, literally everywhere near me has been sold out this week.

I'll only subscribe if you cucks would bring back adam and bruce full time to the know again!
