Amidst the fan backlash from Fallout 76 a law firm has opened up an investigation into Bethesda's somewhat shady refund practices; will this turn into a full on lawsuit?
Finally we shall have justice for the utter lack of care for such a good and beloved series. Let it be known Todd Howard is a false prophet !!!! who has ruined the chance for a good fallout game for another five to six years!!!!
Sooo, in regards to PC game refunds. This is not something new. PC games using cd keys that cannot be reissued is nothing new. This is the reason that resale shops didn't accept PC games. once the game was downloaded there was no way to ensure that it wasn't uninstalled from the buyers PC. Even with steam, I purchased "Getting over it" and refunded it but had not uninstalled the game from my pc. I was able to launch it by going directly to the game folder. With this particular situation, there is a check in and they could (possibly?) blacklist the CD key if it has been refunded. Suing Bathesda may not be the best way to get thing fixed. They make good games, I would hate for the misstep to take down the dev.
People should be able to get a refund if they haven't played very long in the game. I understand why people are upset, but for myself, I have enjoyed Fallout 76.
This has no teeth at all, the game has it's problems but it is a full game and it's exactly what they promised. Also Bethesda has promised to fix it and keep working on it to make it better. I don't know if they want the fame or just the money but I think they will lose, if they even pursue it. I do think that games need better refund polices though.
@woard I would argue however that F76 is not a new game but rather a reskinned Fallout 4 or Skyrim. Even the assets in the game were directly lifted from those other titles. I mean the end-game "boss" is a freaking Skyrim dragon with the same attacking moveset! So therefore, since Bethesda didn't advertise the game as "A Fallout 4 DLC pack" or a "asset-flip game wherein we try to mash F4 and Skyrim together and make something work" (because that is what it has amounted to) it could be construed as false-advertising. You and I have very different ideas about what a full game entails and also about what they promised.
