Next Season
Well, this is interesting, especially since the studies claiming video games are the cause of a lot of mental health issues are steadily being removed from publication because the result have been proven to be false.
People on both sides of this one are just being idiots. To say that all gaming is addictive is just nonsense, but to say it can't possibly be is too. If eating can be considered an addiction anything can be. We as a people have to get over the all or nothing bull crap and learn to compromise. Also if someone is addicted to anything including games, we should do what we can to help them.
Basically any pass-time "can" be addictive and overdone in unhealthy ways. It's only natural that the most popular passtimes will get more attention than less common ones in this regard, even though that unhealthy behavior clearly isn't unique or more prone to that passtime.
The funny thing about this is that it is the AAA gaming industry itself that is making gaming as much like gambling (in addition to some things gambling isn't allowed to do) that is causing this in the first place - particularly the "lack of control over time of gaming" - all these daily login things and timed events and set cycles for maps and raids are very much causing that but it's becoming a thing so that publishers can increase continuous attach rates... oops - so maybe some GOOD can come of this! The AAA gaming publishers could be sued for causing mental disorders in its customers!!
TLDR; AAA publishers might have some BIG trouble on the horizon but old people still don't like the past-times of young people and that battle will rage until the end of death or time - whichever comes first.
