With the recent announcement that Super Meat Boy Forever's PC version will be a timed exclusive for the Epic Games Store, gamers are wondering if Epic is being a bit too greedy.
This could turn into Steam being the place for big titles like CoD, Battlefield, and Assassin's Creed, where Epic will become the platform for Indie developers, and both will stand tall at the end of the day. It's a good possibility, though I won't hold my breath for such an outcome.
my problem with this is there are too many launchers already you have uplay, origin, battle net , bethesda launcher, and im sure there are more i nice to have my game library in one place ie steam. when it comes to excusives i just wont get them but if i know somthing isnt coming to the platforms i care about i just forget about it if it does pop up one day thats fine. if there is a plaform to get me to move away from steam it would be GOG the only reason i don't is the size of my library and the fact i dont want any more accounts i already have too many.
@The_Apples_Juice I actually don't have a problem with many launchers. If anything, it keeps things organized for me. Like I know where I go place Hearthstone, I know where I go play Siege, Origin is my sims launcher. It keeps things clean in a way for me. Yeah it would be nice to have everything all together, but at the same time, it doesn't bother me. I see it as, I don't have one specific drawer for all my clothes, they're all separated and neatly organized in different drawers for a reason. I understand that you don't have too many launchers, but at the same time we have so many different brands of shoes and clothes and various other products, it's not something that isn't common place already.
@The_Apples_Juice Yeah you can keep all your games in one place but it honestly all that inconvenient to startup another launcher compared to having to change consoles and wait for them to startup or plug them in etc.
Is it really holding things hostage if they're giving devs an extra 18% of the revenue? Like... why would you go to Steam as a developer if you get 18% more of the total revenue share - a net increase in share of 25.7%, from the Steam 70%. I don't see how that's greedy or hoarding, honestly. It's a way better deal for indie devs and I think that's reason enough for them to start jumping ship on Valve.
Competition is good and brings out the best in everyone. That was all that needed to be said about this. This will only be good for gamers, when companies fight for your business, you win. I'm excited for this, and already downloaded the Epic Games store. I plan on buying Hades soon, and can't wait to see what else gets put on their store.
Timed exclusives are garbage. I get that there is some incentive for the devs to go that route with the Epic store, but there is no incentive to me as the gamer. If I want to play Hades, for example, I'm being held hostage and have to mess with yet another launcher.
If you want to convert me, give me a legitimate reason. Make a better platform than Steam. Fix some of the issues that it has. Make a better store instead of just one that is the only one that has what I want to buy.
us console plebs have been dealing with exclusives for ever. PC players sorry this is happening but at least you dont need new hardware like Ben said. its literally a download. get over it

unless i can some how export all my steam games over to my library on the epic launcher i dont see it taking my spot as primary launcher. i dont mind playing exclusives on the launcher. but if any game is offered on both clients i know ill go steam just because i know thats where all(large majority) of my games are.
Exclusives exist for a reason. It is a marketing ploy to get people to buy a console. But because it's a expensive investment to buy another console, it's a really big pill to swallow. It has to made worthwhile by the time/game investment of the console. I haven't bought a current gen console except the switch, because the vast majority of AAA games are multiplatform, plus PC has the largest library of games (both good and bad) than any of the consoles (both legit and pirated). There isn't really much point in fussing over this because if you're gaming on PC, then you can buy from Steam, GOG, Epic, Origin, Uplay, etc. and play it all with the same hardware. The only real hardware limitation is whether or not you have the hardware to play the latest and greatest.
I'm so confused. Consoles have always had exclusives and just because Epic Games is coming out with a store to try and rival Steam doesn't mean that Steam is going away, you can still buy and play games on Steam.
