Countries around the world are taking aim at loot boxes and gambling regulations, but EA makes a ton of money off them and they're not going to take it lying down. They say loot boxes are here to stay.
I'm solidly in the camp that loot boxes are the exact same as trading cards but with a couple differences and as long as it doesn't mess with gameplay in a significant manner than it shouldn't matter. I know many disagree but the gaming industry is just that, an industry and so many people fail to see that. Yes, they should worry about abusing their player's trust but they also need to make money when the 60$ that go into a standard game in most cases doesn't nearly cover the cost it takes to make most games when sales are low. I know many disagree and I respect that opinion but I don't think flat banning or outlawing all loot boxes is the way to go like so many on the internet say it is.
I don't care about loot boxes as a whole. It's the pay to win model that gets me upset. Skins, cosmetics, dances, emotes, special effects, all of these are fine. But when you start getting packs that effect experience gained, player stats, rankings, anything that gives an advantage over another player, that's where I draw the line.
Notice that it is not the players of most of the games out there that is driving sales of loot boxes for EA, but the cheap beer swilling dude-bro and -gurl couch coaches who flog their backs, and dolphins, at the altar of sport every second. Granted, there are the couch generals who do the same thing to their shit games too.
@techman3420 I agree Cosmetics and other stuff are just fine, Pay to win sucks ass. I don't think people understand its either loot boxes are the price of games have to go up. I mean how long have games been 64.95 it's been forever but all other forms of entertainment the prices have gone up movie tickets, books ect. . I love being gamer and but honestly gamers are way to demanding and get butt hurt to easily now a days

It is very clear that (just as in the mobile space) the majority of players don't really engage with loot boxes (cosmetic or P2W) and that they are being bought by the same whales that fund the P2W mobile gaming space - it is clearly a practice aimed at sucking dry those who have he money to spare and the lack of willpower to avoid getting addicted - they are a con and a predatory practice against the weak (of mind) and vulnerable (to exploitation); PARTICULARLY as they are targetted squarely at the least able to mentally handle this sort of practice in our societies; our CHILDREN. This is not a fact lost on Europe and loot boxes will be classified by the EU as gambling over the long term... the length of time it takes depends on luck, the (currently) few people active in the physical world detractors with power, the degree of avarice and greed shown by game publishers and the amount of money vested interests have in pushing them. I might point out though that there is a very real possibility of greedy investors permanently damaging the capitalist cause by driving towards such short-term gains as the long-term repercussions could be a lot more serious - to the degree that China has been in the lead in this field alone (never mind other computer based law fields) for years already; that the capitalist world is so far behind in the eyes of consumers suggests that maybe socialism is a better bet and that democracy really isn't any better than communism. (Just remember that to gain power in a democratic country you only need 50% of the vote (or less) which got both Trump elected and Brexit to happen - in communism it takes a lot less but all the people who matter never want change, i.e. changing one way is much easier than the other so maybe we ought to defend our democracy from the corporations before they hand us over to a political system extremely few in the West ever wanted.
well fuck you EA. i will continue to boycott you until you go back to being not a piece of shit company who cares more about money then actually making good games
EA is basically the Artie Ziff of gaming. Literally all they care about is milking as much money as they can out of whoever they can, at the expense of: franchises, publishers, fanbases, good will, etc. and yet they wonder why everyone hates them...
People are Stupid, You pay for loot boxes they will NEVER stop making them. Do not yell at the Developers they are here to make money, if everyone stopped paying for them they wouldn't make them. It's not hard to grasp. Take a Morale stand if you do not like them and do not buy them. Sadly for every one morale stand there are 37 that pay for the loot boxes. So yea its not game breaking just do without the swimsuit version of guy in overwatch and gtfo.
Don't have much to say about EA's stance on lootboxes other than it's your typical corporate response to something that makes them a lot of money. Personally for me, I just hope other publishers take the lootbox backlash and try and stay away from them. I haven't been interested in anything form them or Activision for a while now as they've shown all they care about is making a quick buck, even at the expense of their games' and studios' reputation.
