Nintendo Switch has been hacked! Homebrew enthusiasts discovered a hardware exploit that jailbreaks the Nintendo Switch, which raises concerns for piracy and online cheating.
@at_ob Define "easy." "Easy" as in "a four year old with no prior knowledge could do it" or "a person who knows C++ and general programing could do it?"
@mindset as in a person who could follow a lego instruction manual could do it. i think a dedicated 8-10 year old could...but definately anyone 12 and over
So... what about personal information? If this thing is so hackable, what's to stop someone from making a program that uploads itself to my console while I'm playing online and stealing all my personal details? It would've been nice to hear some information on that side of the matter, one way or the other.
In all honesty, the only thing I would be worried about is someone managing to steal private information (i.e. location, card numbers, etc.) That matters WAY more than someone some scripter ruining someone's "pro" Splatoon killstreak... In fact, it's kind of cool that the Switch is physically modable, and it helps break the console-computer barriers! (Just be sure to buy the games legally, though. Free games are cool, but remember that game designers need food to...) HEY, GAME COMPANIES, sell the console O.S. as well as consoles!!! If not for the consumer, then for tapping into a different market and making some extra cash!
Meh, it was gonna happen sooner or later.
Public-perception-wise, they need to focus on dealing with potential online cheating. Internally, they should probably make a few broad-stroke efforts to deal with piracy to some degree, but not over-focus it 'cuz pirates gonna pirate one way or another.
as someone who doesn't do much online gaming with the Switch, my biggest concern will be if they choose to implement some sort of super-obnoxious DRM for all the legit users to have to deal with.
