No wonder lol why would they charge $20(Or anything, for that matter) when H1Z1 Battle Royale(Which looks exactly like this game) and Fortnite are already free? Its stupid, the devs are dumb. Drop the pricetag and hope u can take enough of that player base to start making your money off of cosmetic micheal transactions ;) lol
The main problem with The Culling, was the updates released consistently had a negative impact on the gameplay, they didn't help balance the game correctly and often you would find they annoyed the player base.
The game lost masses of it's players and instead of realising something was wrong, the developer kept moving ahead with bad decisions. Then shortly after release all the items you held, from pre-release, rare collectables, hard earned unlocks etc, some of these had "real world" value on steam market. "Gone", removed from steam marketplace, un-lockables re-set. The game player base had already dropped massively and newer, more polished games where released or in early access.
The final nail in the coffin was the developer turning around and saying, well things won't get better so we aren't going to update/support or try and fix this anymore.
Then last week happened. Anyone who played the Culling, anyone who paid for it and enjoyed early access, but also stuck around and saw the drop in playerbase and developer support... Well it's not likely they will be purchasing The Culling 2 after the experience.
I have 423 hours in the origional. I absolutely loved it. Lots of fun. I was one of the few that didn't mind all the balance changes and tweaks. The way I figured it is it was still in development and it, like so many other EA titles, just had to find some semblance of balance. The devs kept trying out new combinations of damage and timing and that massively ticked people off who got used to these mechanics.
One of the things that made The culling so amazing was a kind of rock paper scissors vibe to it. You had your melee attack which could be blocked, if blocked you stunned the enemy or you could fake out an attack and force a block leaving your opponent open to attack. Twas great. interesting crafting system, and fun quirkiness between the announcer and the in game currency of F.U.N.C. Great stuff.
Then they released and reset most of your progress, tweaked the UI, changed the perk system a LOT, and removed all steam marketplace availability, then more or less closed up shop shutting down their discord server and peacing out.
Now POOF new game that abandoned all of the origional's uniqueness. Honestly This is quite a shame. I'm sad to see this happen and I hope they just refund all copies sold, and start development on an actual sequel as opposed to a cookie-cutter remake of a BR game. :/
Very sad about this one.
