Everyone says "just give the long time fans what they want," but there's like 8000 different subgroups of "long time fan," and absolutely zero of them want the same exact things.
Personally, I look at this as a step toward the Pokemon MMO that people have been asking for for years: it's on console, which is nice, and there's co-op, which is great, and it even starts over at Gen 1, which everyone wants to claim was the best of all time. I can't wait to own it and sink dozens of hours into it; I won't pretend it'll take more than a couple of days to beat it since most pokemon fans know the Gen 1 maps like the backs of their hands, and I wish that online co-op was a thing so I didn't have to force a friend to coordinate their schedule with mine and be in the exact same place to play with me, but it'll still be fun.
Hopefully, it sells well enough to encourage Let's Go 2 - a game set in Gen 2 and/or Let's Go Snap - a new Pokemon Snap that we desperately need. I'd even be happy about a Hey You, Let's Go! based on the original Hey You, Pikachu.
