The argument of "We only use it or people who are creating new accounts and would like to see where they came from" is a flat out lie. I don't look up anything ESO related, I randomly bought it one day cause it was on sale and my friend told me they had it, but I haven't even played it yet (too many other games). That doesn't mean they know where I got it from or if an ad campaign was successful in selling me a copy. Not to mention they wouldn't know it was me unless they had installed it prior to me purchasing the game, as well as they would have to identify me personally to know if I bought it from a place where they ran ads for it. Determining which places I frequent doesn't mean that I click on ads on those sites. They can't tell if I'm running any ad blocker, and if they could, that's even more of a breach of privacy since they would be monitoring more than just my system specs. All in all, it's a shady program and shady business practice. I monitor what programs are running all the time and I haven't seen it yet so I think I haven't played anything that has it.
