I'm all with Miyamoto here, always have been for this sort of idea but then you get the greed lighting in people's (EA's) eyes and it all goes to shit - I blaim mobile gaming :(
@RiverRunning Nevermind that Nintendo has slowly been doing this in first party games and heavily dug it in mobile.. Mobile Animal Crossing is one of the worst offenders period. Lets ignore all the greedy shit nintendo does though. Charging full price for a 5 year old game is far from being generous and fair.
@RTSUCKS12 I didn't say I agreed with his actions, only what he said - and there is no way you can say Nintendo is going all in on microtransactions until you come up with a much more extreme description of what EA has been doing for at least a decade.
EA's brand is tarnished in MY eyes at least. Bioware is the only part of them that I still have some hope in, and even that is make or break with Anthem coming out
PUBLISHERS. Every time you say developer you should be saying publisher. EA, Ubisoft, Activision. These are publishers. The actual game developers are usually mostly innocent of the publisher's bullshit.
My big problem is with major sports games, but basically just EA since they are mostly the only developer. the fact that year after year they put out the same game and you are paying $60 for a roster update. if I had a chance to make sports games, they would be released every 3 years. this way there would be time to develop a solid game when the tech changes. I would obviously update the game in the off years with rule changes, roster updates, and bug fixes if they come up. I would put a lot features into them like custom game types (ex. 3v3 hockey/7v7 football/other things) drop in/out multi-player options...
someone needs to take down EA Sports monopoly on sports games this way we can get a quality product when we pay $60 for a game.
@StrikerMGR Watch out for your use of monopoly here, @RyanSmith5 will get upset because EA don't hold a monopoly over all games... BUT, yes, their sports monopoly is a serious issue for sports fans and props up their efforts in other areas, but for them Cod might have improved due to real competition rather than the copycat stuff EA produces (not that CoD is any less copycat of course, that's kinda the point :(
@RiverRunning Man, I triggered you so hard you carried it over to another video? A video that completely proves my point of "developers shouldn't be greedy and should listen to their fans?" Jeez dude, get a life xD
Yea most definitely, developers and publishers(mostly publishers) should listen to his advice. So many good games especially indie games that drawn to this idea drawn to this method of over-sustainability(I guess that what I call it) vs completion. Make a complete game (I'm keeping early access out of this since that a completely different subject) than expand upon it instead of pumping out "DLC" and filling it with Micro-transactions. Personally I don't mind micro-transactions within reasons such as cosmetics, I very rarely spend money on those but I understand the purpose behind them. When it comes to DLC timing is important, if DLC is being released shortly after a launch that an issue. One last thing it's important to understand the difference between an expansion and DLC.
@RTSUCKS12 As far as I know, Nintendo has only had 7 games with paid DLC, not including their mobile/free to play games and amiibo. Of those games, only one has a total DLC cost of more than $30, and many of them were created by other companies and only published by Nintendo. Compare that to other games that have DLC costs greater than the original price of the game. Also, of these games, I don't think Miyamoto has had a big say in any of them; he's more in charge of the main series Mario and Metroid games, akin to how Aonuma heads the main Zelda games and Sakurai heads development of Smash Bros., Kirby, and Kid Icarus. Nintendo does have 2 mobile games with microtransactions, but they also have ways to earn the currency bought in said microtransactions rather easily through gameplay. Amiibo, on the other hand, are rather cheap (if bought retail and not from a scalper) and can be used in multiple games. So please, do explain how Miyamoto is a heavy offender.
Yes publishers are/have been obscenely greedy for a long time now, if their gonna make us pay $60 outta the gate for a game do no make us pay for another $60 for dlc that in totally gameplay contains like 1/10th of the content the base title had. CDPR has done this right sure we have to pay for the expansions but the another of content in those expansion more than met and one could argue even exceeded the price tag. As far as microtransactions go I am ok with them only under 1 condition that the game is F2P I understand that the devs of those game have to make a profit in someway in order to get making content and this is ok for cosmetics. And even if devs what to help you fast track your progress in the game there are ways to do this without locking things behind a pay wall everything should be able to be acquired in game if your willing to put hrs into a game to get them, Digital Extremes (the devs of Warframe) are a great example of this, sure you can buy everything right out the gate if you so choose but all those things can be acquired in game if you put the time in without having to spend $ on them.
