I honestly know that they bring in money but I’m sure game devs could make money by producing more then one game a year vs making you pay for a game you bought
Just because video games rely on loot boxes to make money, that does not give them a free pass to use a predatory system. If I could make millions of dollars by going around killing children, that does not mean I should be allowed to. Just because something makes you a ton of money, that does not mean it is ok to do that thing, no matter how unethical or wrong it may be.
overall would be great if something is done to slow down loot boxes. whether or not this investigation goes anywhere is up in the air i feel like but its nice knowing its happening. on a side note its great to see the know are not keen on the idea of loot boxes *looks over at RWBY amity arena with loot box based progression* hmmm. lol
Let’s be honest, they are just going to push for raising games with loot boxes to rated M, which doesn’t matter because most kids still get access to rated M games
Given the state of the current administration, they shouldn't bring up how much money they stand to make from loot boxes. The government will just slap a tax on all loot boxes and let them run as is, under the defense that adding a tax will make people less likely to buy them by raising the price and make games devs less likely to include them because they'll have to fork over a portion of the revenue for including loot boxes. When in reality it will do nothing to stem the tide.
@Fyroth domestically it will stem the tide, foreign it won't, which will cause dev's and companies to re-evaluate the probability of the drop rate for item makingg so the loot boxes become character/item type specific.
If game companies want people to spend money on microtransaction, they should make it so the player has the absolute choice on what they wish to spend their money on.
Gambling your money on a chance of getting what you want is exploitative to children.
If a kid got a hold of their parents credit card, (I've done it before when I was younger) they could drop hundred without even thinking.
I have never bought loot boxes to hopefully get what I want. But I have spent money on specifically what I want if the game gives me the option.
Siege Elite Sins are a perfect example, I've bought multiple.
Loot boxes are bad so fuck all of gaming and all gamers-the FTC probably. This will almost certainly turn out bad. I don't like loot boxes either but we should all be getting ready for another fight to protect games.
@woard I remember every time the the ftc and fcc has tried to put regulations on games and in-game applications over the last 20 years, 90% of their regulations contradict the previous ones and open up more loophole then air voids in swiss cheese. The answer to this problem is for parents to pay attention to your kids and tell them to put the video games down, and go play in the street. I'm 29, i have 7 kids, and i tell them each time they want to buy something: show me your chore book. If they don't have enough money earned, no go. It's a great way to make your kids do their chores.
Well most of the time you can earn the boxes so why not just not let people buy them? That is the only way I think we could keep them if they decide to ban them.
