Next Season
Awwww man I wish you guys had been cutthroat about it. Veiled threats! Blatant threats! Trademarking Playstation 5!
Seriously though, great info.
Would totally download a pizza. Leeeeets eat!
Seems like they just want to cash in on a popular saying. It's just like the happy birthday song.
Sony is just being Sony... wasting money and effort trying to get a trademark that's completely worthless... just because their marketing department can't come up with decent names for their products.
They probably just want to create their own streaming service to replace twitch as the main streaming service in their consoles, and "let's play" is the best name their mediocre marketing department could offer.
Eventually they will probably settle with a trademark such a "PlayStation Let's Play".
shouldn't it be more like "Lets Play-Station" lol :P
Well, Taylor Swift tries to trademark numbers. This is nothing compared to that.
And Intel has trademarked the letter "i" so...
Candy Crush Saga owns the word candy. The Atlanta Braves sued Pixar for using their name in the title of a movie.
Oh. They mentioned that in the video...
If it really is for a streaming service why don't they call it playstation live?
I'm with Burnie. Downloading cars would be pretty dangerous.
But if you could would you? Especially a Ferrari or McLaren F1? Damn straight I would! :D
I think they would lose any credibility if they continue to push for the trademark.
if sony is actually trying to buy-to-own the term 'lets play', they are going to be met with some serious backlash.seriously they have to have people that research this stuff.
I happened to notice in the supermarket the other day, it's also in use by Dr. Pepper Snapple for their "get active" charity. Maybe the TM pictured on their logo is just for that particular image and not the phrase? Or only for the phrase in "healthy" contexts? Not exactly sure of the particulars, just thought it was interesting coincidence...
Here it is on the Dr. Pepper site~

Honestly, given how you guys are pretty mainstream (and your presence at last years E3 backs that up), Sony HAS to know who you guys are. And they also have to know how the term is used so prolifically, and that's evident by the fact that they're trying to trademark the term in the first place. I would hope a big game company like that would have people who research this stuff, and that they know that if they try to use this for any more than a simple marketing campaign, it's going to blow up in their faces big time.
Of course Sony is aware of RT and their channel Let's Play. And even outside of RT, as they said, an innumerable amount of people make game play video's titled "Let's Play (Game name)". It'd be a futile struggle for Sony to actually go after those who use this, as there are so many. Or if they do they might try to take out other possible competitors that use the said Let's Play motto. But this has been used for years and years since this was a twinkle in Sony's eye, to take those people to court and have those people/companies court ordered to change the name would be a folly. Sony has kind of messed up, well really messed up in the past but if they do this and choose to go after people in the Sony community using that tag line they will lose a LOT.
