Youtubers definitely have an impact. Half the games I've wanted to buy are through AH and FH.
I basically only find out about games through Youtubers. I tend to watch a whole play through and buy games anyway, just because I liked the LP.
Well, its definitely a lot easier than buying the game and not being able to return it.
If only Nintendo would get out of their ancient mindset and realize that. Then we could get Mario Party and Smash Bro videos. What a world that would be. I'd say the same 50% of the games I buy are because AH, Ray, and Markiplier.
If it wasnt for the Devs playing Terraria I prob NEVER would have known about that title. Its a older title at this point, but it blew up in popularity because of those videos,. I remember tons of people "throwing money at screen, can i play now" style comments in those videos. AND THAT WAS JUST THEM FIGHTING OFF HORDES OF SLIMES!
so pewdiepie has his video back up with a comment about the "drama"
I don't watch his videos, he is just too silly for me and I've never been a fan of single person lets plays. Any chance you can relay the comment?
not a fan of his very silly videos but enjoy his fullplays(last of us, firewatch etc) so i had never watched the bear video before but he commented this in the description.
Please read:
So, I decided to keep this video up despite of drama..
I originally took the video down yesterday after hearing the developer felt discouraged from getting harsh criticism. (Most likely not only from me).
Now, I’m not interested in making people feeling bad, so I took the video down..
But later after hearing he stopped developing games in total and gave up on this project, it kind of made me think I should keep the video back up. Obviously you don’t stop making games because of one person’s video, and me taking it down made it seem like that was the case to some people.
The video speaks for itself, but I do think it’s a shame he stopped making games.
I’ve been faced with very harsh criticism in my days online and I know it can be rough as hell.
But you can also learn from it, and grow from it.
By abandoning this game you’re letting the people who supported and who is supporting you down. Which isn't really fair to them.
There has been plenty of times when I felt like quitting YouTube for example. But it just doesn't make sense to quit, just because some people maybe don’t like it?
Although being public on the internet isn’t something everyone can handle, I get that.
Here’s to hoping the developer has a change of heart.
Take this video with a pinch of salt… like all my videos, honestly.
and this was when the video was first up
"Honestly the game isnt THAT bad. I my expectations were just A LOT higher. I hope the developer doesnt get discouraged and keep making better games in the future."
At the additional content he added on the reupload. Does he actually think anybody will read the description for the video? I mean really how often does anybody read anything posted in the description, even when the video content itself says link in the description (most said links are posted in the very top so you don't have to expand them), most will just run a search for the content.
he did also put a comment(the same thing) in comment section but yeah get your point
While I think generally Let's Players both on youtube and even here on Roosterteeth have some kind of impact on some game sales it is mostly just indie titles that affected. But PdP has a potential impact much larger than the rest. His wikipedia page compares it to the Oprah Effect, except while Oprah was aware of her influence, PdP doesn't really care.
Positive videos on a game help indie developers get sales and make improvements, but a negative video with the level of coverage like Pewd's is basically the same as a death warrant. His followers for the most part are too immature to tell the difference between a youtube performance and actual criticism. So when they watch and see him ripping the game a new one, they go a do the same even if it's unjustified.
I've said it before, I'll say it again... Pewdiepie is a bitch. Watch Markiplier, He's actually able to be funny without making other people feel like shit
I bought Life is Strange because of the Game Club video that was done on it so I totally understand this. But I'm also the type of person who would still buy something if AH or FH or anyone at RT made a funny video out of how bad it is. Things that don't work or aren't everything that you expected are sometimes half the fun. (Just watch any Demo Disk.)
That's why I've always liked Burnie's rule on not shitting on games. If you didn't like it, then just leave it be. Don't give it attention. Behind it all, these are people who are depending on this income for a living. Especially on these indie games where the people are doing it for the love of it and making a living. The bigger RT has gotten, that policy is less in effect, but there hasn't been too much hate on games.
Aww I thought she said "lewd anime".
Ryan and Meg Let's Play of Bear Simulator, please! And at the end, counteract DooDiePie by emailing the dev and asking if you can pay twice!
pewdiepie is a dick
fuck peeweedeedee
I've been playing bear simulator and its not a whole lot of game for the price, but it is the best bear simulator out there. It really sucks that there won't be much more if any content or updates, I really wanted more of this game to play.
