Is not like Uncharted is popular for its story, is all about the gameplay.
Man, all this talk about how hard it is for an ending to emotionally satisfactory after many hours and many years of dedication to a series started to feel like it was talking about Homestuck's ending next week.
Clickbait title in thumbnail? Surprised it wasn't Funhaus.
Now, I haven't really played the series but it sounds to me like he's going to be seriously injured. People don't like their protagonist dying, but he can't go on these quests if he's in a wheelchair.
It is almost expected that he dies, the game is titled "A Thief's End."
Now, sure, that could mean any number of things. You know, it's the final game, he could be retiring, whatever. But, in the back of you head, you think about it. "He's going to die, isn't he?"
Now, at this point, I almost feel like that ending isn't possible. Something along the lines of
"...there's no way they're just saying it, right? Why do they keep talking? Are they seriously spoiling this?"
It just kind of feels like a ploy to make you buy into the hype, where they pull the rug out from under you. "Oh, nope, he lived. lul. Had you going didn't I?"
Now, where I originally hoped he lived, I kind of want him to die. I've played all the games, and am invested in Drake's journey, but with all this stuff about a controversial ending I'll almost be disappointed if he doesn't go out in some way fitting of a beloved character.
You can only handle someone calling wolf so much.
Naughty Dog has been entertaining me and making my favorite games for basically my whole life. I would be lying if i said I wasn't a little nervous about this. I've hyped this game up so much in my own head that unless it's close to perfection it will kind of be a slight let down. I'm definitely not doubting their ability to make a close to perfect game, but knowing this is the end of Nathan Drake's story adds a whole other level to this
Maybe the ending is controversial because Drake joins the Brotherhood of Assassins. A connected universe explains the "stolen" concept art. It all makes sense!
SPOILER!!! Nathan Drake ends up working for Nintendo after relieving the hidden truth of 343, the story arc for Metal Gear Solid 6 and 7, and how EA is actually a company that is very good at making a game not suck!!!
less meg please?

This isn't even closely related to ME3's ending. The reason people didn't like the "Red, Blue, and Green Button" ending is because it completely went against the game itself. The culmination of three 50+ hour RPGs shouldn't have ended with you choosing between three cookie-cutter endings. As for the Uncharted Series, they are Action-Adventure games. We have never had a choice in any of the games before. They are supposed to be blockbuster style action flicks with you controlling the main character. BTW The Last of Us ended the same for everyone. You sparing or killing the doctors had no effect on the story. It was just a moral decision that most people didn't really even know they were making.
Mass Effect 1 had 1 ending that took place in one of two rooms
Mass Effect 2 had 2 endings, one being where you died
Mass Effect 3 had 4 endings, and since the entire trilogy built up to destroying the Reapers, we should've only had one.
I would argue the the "endings" of ME1 and 2 were still just choices to build up to the finale of ME3. Imagine if the entire Mass Effect Trilogy was just one game. The amount of choices, character deaths, side quests, and morality challenges throughout all of that game should give you more than just four endings. At the beginning of ME1 Shepherd sees horrible visions of the Reapers which makes them the antagonists of the entire series. A terrible threat coming to destroy all and nobody believes him. Other problems are just bumps in the road. How you dealt with those bumps shouldn't have led to four endings with slightly different monologues. That being said, I put Mass Effect at number 5 of my most favorite game series of all time. Truly amazing games.
I'm sure this will have no effect on anyone who's still mad about ME3, but I wish people would get over it. Let's assume I hate the ending too (Which I don't. I actually really enjoyed the ending, especially if you indulge in the Indoctrination Theory, but even without it.) The rest of the series was so well-made and involved and amazing. Yet somehow people are willing to now dismiss the entire trilogy for one mistake. Yes, maybe the mistake was the culmination of all your progress in the game, but you still had all the enjoyable content. That still happened. If the ending is so disappointing to you, why not just imagine you never played it and remember how awesome it was to fight through the Collector base, or get busy with an alien (if that's your thing).
Maybe I'm missing something that comes with unadulterated ire toward something you once admired and respected, but it seems like people were disappointed in their over-expectation. It's still a video game. And with so many variables and different choices, to keep track of every single one for an essentially unique ending for every player is pretty unfathomable, at least for the near future.
I wish Mass Effect wasn't remembered coldly as the series that blew everything it had created, and instead was remembered fondly as one of the most moving and engaging RPGs of the early 21st century.
I haven't played any of BW's older games like Knights of the Old Republic, but I've played all the Dragon Age and Mass Effect games. None of them had good endings. Dragon Age Origins had probably the best ending if it was going to be a standalone game, but it's made worse by latter games trying to build off them.
