So the criticism is that it is basically GTA V singleplayer... Underwhelming repetitive side missions, questionable character movement, awesome main story - gameplay best played by mainlining the main story.
Also to be fair the GTA V that exists today is so much more/better than the GTA V that launched. But Mafia 3 lacks multiplayer so they need to focus on cleaning up the game that is. Hangar 13 will likely smooth this out. So far I am closer to FORBES on my personal review than Guardian.
RDR was fun as all hell and it to was fantastically repetitive but as long as one finds fun in it - than it was a success. I never knew I could spend hours picking birds off mid-flight till RDR.
Poor Mafia 3
After watching the AH lads play it, I could tell something just looked... off. It didn't look or play like a triple A game, and definitely not a worthy successor to Mafia II.
I don't really get the praise given to the narration because to me it has issues. Firstly, the documentary-style interviews didn't feel like they brought something useful to the story. You storm an hotel, cut to a video of a guy saying "Lincoln stormed the hotel, but then he had to escape", and then you play the escape. You don't need to repeat what's happening, game. Secondly, and particularly with priest-dude, some dialogues are long, with pauses. To an extent, it's more real, but the problem is that it doesn't fit with the pace of the gameplay. What it tries to be is dramatic, how it came across to me was boring.
The story itself wasn't bad, but the way it was told felt wrong. So at some point I stopped carrying and just played to kill dudes, which was actually fun while it lasted. I'd give it a solid bayou/10, because I don't believe in numbers.
So when, exactly, did Forbes become a credible source for video game reviews? I mean, they're not even a particularly credible source for FINANCIAL ADVICE/NEWS, as evidenced by the fact that they've had quotes on their front page from Martin Shkreli (AKA Pharma Bro) even after his asshattery was exposed.
Come on guys, you can do better than this, stop going after the low hanging fruit.
The lack of any kind of hype train prior to release kinda made me figure the game wasn't going to come out working 100%. I guess 2k just finally wanted the game done or whatever. Better to make some money off of a bad game than no money I suppose.
