I've been using PS Now for a while and it's actually not that bad. It feels like the input lag for an older TV. There are times where it could be better, but it works since I played through AC2 to Rogue and it was very lenient with a lot of the button presses. Things like fighters and shooters suffer from the lag since you have to anticipate what might happen. The video is only 720p, but since most of these are older titles anyway, the quality is bearable. There's artifacting and compression galore, but that's to be expected when you're playing a game that's not being rendered locally. Overall, it's a really good way to catch up on a lot of the games you may have missed out on.
Isn't it nice that both Sony and Microsoft are aggressively trying to get their exclusives on Windows!? As a PC gamer, I feel like the belle of the ball!
Maybe Microsoft but I wouldn't say Sony yet. Aggressive would have been porting PS4 exclusives to Steam and sticking it to Microsoft for having to use their store. Instead we get a $100 streaming service for old games. That's kinda just acknowledging that PC exists.
This is great for PC. It means more games. Kind of wish they were actual PC ports, but hey, beggers can't be choosers.
I like the exclusives on Xbox more then PS, but I have to say I love the fact I wont have to upgrade to Win10, PS will run on win 7.
I really don't understand this idiocy going around the entire planet of not wanting to upgrade to a faster, more secure, better designed operating system. Especially since people are always so vehement about said idiocy...
This is not meant to be taken as a personal attack towards you. You do you, and all that. I just don't understand the concept in general, it just makes no sense to me whatsoever.
Especially since some day people will be FORCED to upgrade, and now due to their vehemence not to, they've missed the 1 year window where it was absolutely FREE.
@MichaelWaite I beg to differ on your claims of "faster, more secure," and "better designed"...
I've used Win10, and it reminds me of other great MS OS such as Vista, ME, Win 8, Win 8.1.
Look at the Market shares on OS: Win7 47.01%...Win8 2.09%...Win 8.1 7.8%...Win10 21.13%. Hell, windows XP is 15 years old and still has 10.3% of the market and for those keeping score that's almost half of the win10 market share. Windows 10 was also free, that speaks volumes for the confidence MS has in the OS, Mr. Beta tester, not meant to be taken as a personal attack.
And I think you're misinformed about being "FORCED" to upgrade from Win7 with a 47% share of the market, Win7 has a few more years left in her ( See Windows XP )
Microsoft gets it almost right every 7-10 years but not this time and the number speak for themselves and I respect your opinion and passion for Windows 10, I just strongly disagree.
Now we can all be friends again and agree that people like grapes.
First, the idiocy I was talking about was mostly people still using XP. I wasn't clear on that, my bad. Sorry!
Second: jesus fuck, 10% still? REALLY? From a security standpoint XP is a fucking OPEN DOOR...
Third: Yes, better designed. Even on a laptop with a 1TB HDD, full almost to capacity, and with indexing on, it STILL boots up within 5 minutes. Compare with my old machine, which was XP and then Vista (it's REAL old, now...), which would take up to half an hour with indexing OFF, at only 320GB of HDD (again near capacity).
It's also only given me something like 3 BSoDs in over a year. Considering I have horrible luck with hardware (current machine was my third in only three years, they kept failing in ways covered by insurance so Best Buy kept having to give me new ones, best insurance purchase EVER), it came with a half-busted HDD that I had to get replaced on the first of this year, and that I run my machines into the ground, that's very impressive. I usually get 10 or more per year. And all of these BSoDs were failures of the GRAPHICS DRIVER, nothing to do with the OS itself at all!
I admit there were some hiccups with Cortana failing for some people, HARD, at the start, but I was lucky and never got those. Those issues have all been resolved, too, as far as I know.
And for the classic argument some people make about not having a proper start menu... I haven't used the start menu in Windows since at least 2005. Search function just works BETTER. Type in a few letters of the program name, it pops up in the responses, click, done. If I use it all the time I just pin it to start and don't even have to search, it works great!
So yeah, I feel it's a LOT better designed than XP and 7.
And eventually, people WILL have to upgrade to a newer OS than 7. That's just a fact. Whether that's now or in a few years, it doesn't matter, their reluctance to do so has made so that they'll either have to buy a new computer or pay for a new OS, rather than being able to update to the latest for free. That's cutting off your nose to spite your face, right there.
Finally... Dude, people fucking LOVE grapes!
Dogs, on the other hand...
So sony adds old game for a fee + the fee you pay already to get online. Xbox is making similar stides, but doesn't require a second payment and they are new games.
Dammit. When I saw this I thought they were going to be PS4 exclusives. Instead it is streaming ps3 games.
But at least it’s a start, If Xbox can do it you can be sure Sony won’t be far behind. You gotta remember, Sony is going all in with their gaming division, its what’s keeping them afloat. Or at least that’s my opinion, but I’m shitfaced so take it with a grain of salt.
@fulcrum322 "If Xbox can do it you can be sure Sony won’t be far behind."
Yes, because Sony is well known for innovation, quality product, and engineering expertise.
Oh wait...
Sorry, got that wrong, Sony is well known for seeing other people have good ideas and then coming up with sub-par copies of said ideas, and never anything original or new.
meh streaming
think i'll just wait till they actually start porting games instead of streaming...
i really wish both microsoft and sony would just start porting old exclusives to PC (like some original xbox/360 and PS2 / 3 games). granted microsoft did do that to SOME games, i wish they'd just put all the old ones on PC.
that and i wish capcom would stop being insane and put monster hunter on LITERALLY any other console... but im probably just wishing for things that will never happen like a crazy person.
A streaming service, huh? So I guess that means it's essentially not going to be available in Australia. Or at the very least only a very small percent of potential users would be able to play at even minimum consistent specs. Oh well.
What they don't say is that with PS NOW you can also just rent a single game if you want for a certain period of time if you don't want to pay for the subscription. I am assuming that you should be able to do the same thing on PC. The biggest problem with this service is that you need a good internet connection (at least 5 Mbs I believe is the minimum) and if you live in certain parts of the world, even in certain areas of the US, it will be very hard to stream these games.
I think its awesome for Sony to be trying to let gamers that have never played their exclusives to finally be able to play them. This is what I believe they envisioned when they were releasing PS NOW in the first place. Now I will be curious to know the data in 6 months to a year of how many people on PC actually use the service and what games they actually play.
I love how Jon stands with his arms glued to his sides.
