VR setups are not something I can just say "Hey I want this". I have bills, children, and less expensive hobbies to spend my hard earned money on. VR just doesn't tickle my fancy.
I can tell you why sales are down! I have a decent liquid income every month and even though i'm a huge gamer with a great PC, $800 for a VR just sounds like a waste. Tell we get a solid base of good game developers I don't see why I should buy.
I could have managed $800 but then oil crashed and suddenly it went from ~$900 CAD to $1200 CAD so I bought a GTX 1080 instead and decided to wait until the Vive price goes down.
Easy solution: Announce Half Life 3 as a VR game.
I think a lot of the people who are interested in VR that aren't early adopters haven't picked it up already because holiday 2016 hasn't come around yet. Outside of the pre-orders, most of the growth will be around November and December. If there are more titles on the way that can move units and would coincide with the flood of new customers during that boom, it will help bolster the market in general. Talking about headsets and adoption rates as a recent release won't show much improvement since everyday people either don't have the money or the time to get VR during the summer. Only the people that want to be in the early stages of VR and the developing market are willing to invest in it between launch and the holiday rush.
When VR costs me around $100 for the setup then and only then would I consider buying it. Not even the Holiday Rush will lower to that cost so I won't be buying for awhile.
having VR is like having a boat; it's cool to use, but nobody actually wants to own it.
As a Vive owner who has people over to play all of the time, this is definitely true.
Its all about money. The systems cost so much that no one can buy them. The xbox and playstation are "expensive" as it is to modern consumers. So when you need a strong computer then the VR system. yeah no not happening
I want a vive, but step one is to get a computer powerful enough to run it and that alone will take me a couple months of saving.
I'm building an high end rig for 3840x2160 gaming and I still think the price is a little high for what the graphics looks like. I'll most likely get one in the second gen or later gen.
price is the only thing that's kept me from getting VR
If Fallout 4 VR comes to PC it should help push sales of the Vive some. Nude Fallout 4 mods + VR might be the ticket.
Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 is gonna have this on Playstation. Not nude but way up there in the creepy touching a girl as she verbally tells you to quit kinda VR. So yeah VR will explode after that.
Like mentioned in the video, VR is still too damn expensive and there still aren't any good games for it.
Personally, I'd probably use a Vive more for its virtual desktop capability than for games, so I dont really care that there aren't any games for it right now, but its still so damn expensive

I can't afford VR and don't have the space for a VIVE. I'm looking more forward to AR than VR.
