So does this mean that people are going to just flat out stop reporting on rumors like this? And are they stopping the 3DS? I can't tell from the video.

I love hearing about how The Know verifys it's sources. Especially because as a journalism student my professors are very insistent on "If your source doesn't want to be named/identified/acknowledged then you probably don't want them" often because of issues like this

Thankfully the controller was fake a fully touch button controller would have killed the console immediately. It's like playing mario on your phone using an emulator, nearly immpossible

Little thing I love about the script here: they called the photoshopper and the 3D modeler "skilled" instead of "talented". It's a little nitpick of mine and it makes me happy :)

It does change the scope of the hoax and the skills required to pull it off, which is central to the story. Ehhh, I suppose it's a minor error in writing rather than a major slip up. Still, I'm amazed he didn't touch up the shadows to match the other items in the final composite scene.
