nintendo go confirmed
Sorry but, besides nostalgia, there's no practical reason to use cartridges. They take up space, they don't hold as much data... why?
Also I find it utterly hilarious that RT employees see their own ads on other pages. Imagine being Barb and seeing yourself just about anywhere you go.
Cartridges(flash memory) are faster than discs. The move to CD-Roms was because they could hold more data back then. If you compare the same title on PS1 and N64, the PS1 version looks better but had crazy long loading times.
At this point cartridges and Blu-Rays have similar specs, but I think it's preferable to not have a moving disc inside of a (semi?)portable console. The games could be put on a hard drive (or solid state, but that would raise the price like crazy) but then you'd be stuck with a limited amount of space and would need to decide on which games you keep on it and which ones you delete.
Except if its portable you don't want moving parts. Also how big do you think a 32 gig cart would be? You can get 32 gig micro SD cards for your cell phone, so i don't see how size will be an issue,
Thank you. I have seen the error of my ways.
@Kevin_01 Personally I'd prefer to go with "cartridges" because of the more stable environment. Nintendo is large enough to get manufacturer deals on SSDs. It wouldn't take much to make the SSDs proprietary for Nintendo devices (meaning only works with...) having a 30-50gb "cartridge" would be just fine for a few games. all they'd really have to do is for the new system is make the base programming for all of the NX games the same (i.e. same engine/architecture) and store than on the handheld, and then the external would just be game specific data that would just need to referance whats already on the device. I'm honestly kindof shocked this kind of transition has not happened before now.
Is it just me, or can Jon pull of an impressive Vincent Price impression?
@Jon on the outtakes. Jesus fucking Christ That fucking escalated goddamned fucking quickly. FUCK! SHIT! PILLSBURY!
I loved that outtake such a strong opinion. Nightcrawler was really cool.
Neat to see Barbara and Rooster Teeth First on the side of the article of eurogamer.
Jon, you make me smile with your outtakes.
Well if it's a handheld then it's not going to succeed. I have a phone so handheld is 100% useless. hopefully it's a stationary console. Also cartridges are better than disks in some other ways like read speeds. A cartridge has very little load time because it's all right there and nothing is really searched for.
