Yes, you should definitely eat kangaroo while you're here in Australia. It's delicious. Yes, you can hug a koala at a wildlife sanctuary (most notably at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane) but I would advise against hugging any you find in the wild. And Joel, the vicious creature you were describing is a drop bear and not a koala. You really don't want to get those mixed up.
